Holy shit this thread is getting off the rails.

We should probably dial it back a bit before bans start to get handed out.

Luke 22:36-38 NLT. “But now,” he said, “take your money and a traveler's bag. And if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!
Even Jesus wanted his disciples to be prepared to defend themselves. Good luck turning the other check when a psycho is shooting at you. Not only is it your right to defend yourself, it's your duty to protect your family. None of that is contradicting the Bible in any way.
And in Luke 22:38 the disciples said “See, Lord, here are two swords!”

“That’s enough!” he replied.

then when one of Jesus followers used their sword in Luke 22:50 Jesus said “No more of this!” In vs 51.

So I guess you can go digging for one of those two swords and carry it around. Just don’t use it on anyone, Peter got the one free swing in for all of eternity.

Love when a thread gets crazy.

To keep it from being derailed - This incident took place very close to the 2012 Stand your Ground case involving George Zimmerman vs. Tryvon Martin, a shooting that made national headlines. Only after the truth came out in a court of law did the press/protests/BLM go silent.

I don't interpret it in that way at all. Being able to defend yourselves vs arming up for an entire war. It wasn't about the sword and definitely not just those 2 exact swords. Firearms didn't exist, so obviously you were to arm yourself with the same weapons you'd need to defend yourself from. This story makes it pretty clear that could easily be a firearm for simply driving home from work. Turning the other check when someone slaps you is a good practice. When they pull a firearm that just means you die with holes in your back. If you think you'll avoid every potentially life threatening situation or there will magically be a cop there to protect you, that's your choice. I'd rather die defending my family rather than running away or begging for my life or theirs. You see it as one free swing for eternity, I see it as even Jesus supporting defending yourself just not in excess. Don't be the aggressor. Don't go looking for trouble. Do your best to avoid it. But when you're backed into a corner, you do what you gotta do. I use the same scenario for everyone I've ever encountered that has the violence is never the answer mentality. You get home from work tonight and there's someone raping your wife/daughter/mom (covers most every man that there's at least some woman they truly care about), is there any answer but violence in that moment? Run away and call the cops? Pop some popcorn and watch until he's done? Or do the right thing as violently and effectively as you can?

When Jesus was backed into a corner he chose to die. (Then rise again, but still)

To summarize from multiple news articles: Hall (deceased), swerved at the Harris' BMW after he passed him because he was driving slow, started all this? Then when they got to the same stop sign, Hall called Harris "an expletive for a female body part" further antagonizing Harris. Then pulled into a parking lot, when Harris followed to get his license plate, Hall blocked in Harris? To me Hall F.A. and F.O., plain and simple. Per Harris' account Hall kept escalating it, sure Harris pulled the trigger and ended it excessively in the end but if he is as much of a degenerate as some members here seem to want to paint him as, why didn't he run? He didn't say he feared for his life but certainly seemed like he was trapped in a corner. Seems like a couple of men with fragile egos and it escalated beyond what it should have, neither are completely innocent. As I've previously mentioned in another post on another topic, I drive like a grandpa, I expect and actually want people to pass me vs riding my tailgate. If they do it dangerously, as long as no one gets in a wreck, why would it be any of my business to police that? If I meet them at the next stop sign or stop light, which tends to happen I giggle because going fast and driving like an asshole got them to the same destination at the same time as me and I go on about my day. Fellas here is some free advice to keep you on the right side of the grass: no matter how mean, crazy or how fast of a draw you think you are, there is always someone meaner, crazier and faster than you, leave your ego at home. If you get backed into a corner, by all means, come out swinging or shooting but don't swerve at a guy, pull up on him at stop sign and antagonize further and then block him in because you might end up in the ground.

Good luck with your resurrection, I'm sure that makes your wife/family comfortable to think you'd rather die than defend them.

The only side of the story we have is from the murderer. He claims the guy swerved at him. He claims the guy called him a name. He claims the guy rushed him (which doesn't match witness accounts). The only thing we know for sure is the guy chased down and shot an unarmed man multiple times. Is any of his story true? Maybe. Does any of that justify firing once at an unarmed man let alone getting out and continuing to fire as the guy runs away (according to witnesses)? Not at all. If you're chasing me down I may get to the point of confrontation because I'm not about to let someone acting aggressive and following me follow me to my house. That doesn't make the victim guilty of anything but getting tired of some asshole chasing him. The dudes not charged with murder because he was defending himself.

🙄 I don’t see anything political about it.

A bunch of people discussing safety….. self defense…protecting ourselves on the streets & highways, in the parks, in your homes, everywhere. Nothing wrong with trying to protect yourself, & your loved ones. 😉
I remember where I've heard that argument. Back in HS and then later again in college.

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

I’m sorry the world is so scary to you.
Not in the least. Chance favors the prepared mind so they say. Odds are nothing will ever happen where I'll need to use a firearm do defend myself or my family, but I'm sure that's what the victim in this case thought too. Better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war as Bruce Lee said. Do I want to shoot anyone? Hell no. Am I willing to die defending those that I care about? Absolutely. I hope you never find yourself unprepared. Nobody has ever regretted being over prepared though.

Why can't we all just get along?
It's kinda boring when everybody sits around and sings kumbaya.
When Jesus was backed into a corner he chose to die. (Then rise again, but still)
Uhh... I think you missed the point of the whole Jesus story there. And he did tell his people to sell their cloaks to buy a weapon if they didn't have a way to defend themselves or others.
