I was trying twice as hard then. Since I ended up winching about 5 yards before that also. I didn't move far enough to even hook to a different tree.
Rotten spring snow, was about 2.5 feet deep there. I do love playing in the snow.
I’ve been in a similar situation. It’s two seconds after you wind that winch in. You look in front of you and say to yourself, I think I’m good now. Let’s go. Nope. Stuck again dammit. :)

Yep, definitely.
After the second time I just wound the excess cable loosely around the bull bar. Of course I didn't get stuck after that.
Years ago, it took me 3 or 4 times of getting stuck within yards of each other before I wound the extra cable around the big KC lights I had on the front bumper of my Toyota. I bet I used the winch no less than a dozen times to go about a quarter mile that day. Again, deep shitty spring snow. The winch was only a few months old at that time. Easily paid for itself.
Maybe I shouldn't mention, I was by myself. Then again, I frequently snow wheel by myself or with a passenger or two in my vehicle only.
A winch has been one of the first mods to every 4x4 I've owned. I carry winch supplies, a big ax and a shovel at all times.
Been thinking of adding traction boards to my rig. The last time I got stuck in the snow, I think traction boards would of got me out faster than the winch. Plus I've pulled a few cars out that didn't have good anchor points. Traction boards might of worked there also.

I thought the same, and brought them the last time I was in heavy spring snow. They were worthless. I didn’t use any throttle, and still chewed up my tires and didn’t get unstuck. The winch came out again and I was out in seconds.

Interesting, I've used fir boughs to help to get unstuck before. Kinda figured the boards would be similar.
I found 1 in the snow a couple winters ago. I'll have to take it out this winter and play with it some. I've also toyed with the idea of cutting it in half and carrying it on the SxS for the sand. But I've only had it stuck once, that was in some really fluffy wind blown sand.
Maybe youtube will have ideas🤣

Well was on the 4th of July ( little late )
I had my 7200k generator in the bed of the jeep . Ran the line out threw it up over a huge tree limb drove under and slightly past and lifted the generator out and then back to the ground out of the bed of the truck .

This is a good reminder to go make sure my winch does winch things.

It hasn't been used since.

Well I don't know when.
Thanks for reminding me to run wire so I can use the small winch on the tractor. :)

I'm also in the brush and log group. I appear unable to get stuck where I have a suitable point to pull from.

Hell yes. I have a 5,500 sxs winch on a 2” receiver mount, that I use on the rear of the gladiator for weird situations like saving my taillight in gulchy stuff. The snowplow mount I ordered for the tractor has a 2” receiver on the ssqa plate for “off season” use. So I’ll just run a few feet of 2awg to an Anderson plug with a cut off, so I can use it. There have already been a few situations where it would be nicer the trying to fit the tractor in heavily treed areas, to drag felled trees out. Not that I couldn’t use the gladiator, but I like to tinker.

As you have noticed, I am practically a professional tinkerer.

I'd love to add a 2" receiver on the front of mine (it has a nice steel plate below the brush guard that would be perfect) to slip a winch into when needed. I have also considered making a jib-pole to be able to pick things up higher. A little winch would be handy with that.

I have a similar plate in the same place, but I didn’t want to have to lift up the bucket or whatever attachment to clear the way for the winch.
