Rubicon here. Even though its the most expensive Rubicon models on the JK have the best deprecation so in the long run cost of ownership is on par with all the other models, plus I get all the Rubicon extras.

Its weird how buying a Jeep can actually make financial sense.

Just curious, why?
Well I never have liked the plain look of the Sport models and I don't know if I have the time to research and get all the parts would need to make it look the way I want.

I honestly think I fit in the MOAB consumer bracket. Love the look of the Rubicon but don't need the whole Rockclimb ability.

I like the Rubicon because it is the only way to get leather and Nav with the higher towing numbers (approaching the Max Tow Sport S).

Hoping to be able to afford Overlander, but I could settle for the Sport (again...)

I currently have a JLU Sport S but I'll be going Rubicon this time. After buying my Sport S and all the aftermarket add ons, I figured it would have been smarter to have bought the Rubi from the get go. I do a lot of off roading and to that end I've bought a full lift (shocks springs, links, etc), 35s, the steel rubi bumper, winch, etc., etc., I still plan to buy new gears (going up to at least 4.10), LED headlamps, soft top, etc., etc.

So I might as well go with the Rubi. Especially now that it'll come with Fox shocks. That said, I'm going to wait on the Diesel. I know the Sport and Sport S have higher towing but I'll need that torque when going up the Rocky Mountains.

Oh, and while I love Ocean Blue, I'm, just chomping at the bit for Gator. The ole Army Sgt in my is drooling over that color.

I would like to get a rubicon. But I really need the extra 600lbs of towing to tow my trailer. On top of that I don't think I could save up enough for the down payment for a Rubicon by the time just current rig breaks down beyond worth repairing.
So I'm buying a sport.

No ocean blue on the JT for the 2020 year anyway, I hope they bring it back by the time your diesel is ready.

I'll be getting a rubicon because I don't want to wish I did later. Honestly most of the places I go with my current rubicon I also did easily in my 08 sahara but the rubicon does it much easier.

If you need the extra 600lbs you should probably be considering a different tow vehicle, at the max tow capacity the JT with the 3.6L is going to be struggling. I have towed around 3300lbs with a JKU quite a bit, 3.6L 3.73s and it was okay but not great, even with the 4.10s I cannot see it handling twice the weight without difficulty.

I have a Sport S JLU and will be going for a Rubicon Gladiator. Although I may not always need lockers and disconnects, I do prefer the aesthetics of the Rubicon much better and, at least with the JL, you have more options available to you (like LED, color matched fenders, etc.).

The 8spd is supposed to make a huuuge difference in towing compared to the old crappy slush box in the JK...

My trailer is 5500 wet. But I prefer to not go more than 85 percent of capacity and I also carry gear so then I subtract 500 then I subtract 300lbs per person. The sport would work to 5,660 lbs based on my criteria but the rubicon would work to 5,150 lbs which is less than my trailers weight so I prefer the sport. I'm definitely not towing double the weight of the gladiator.

The JK trans after '12 is a 5 speed made by Mercedes, by all accounts I have read it is great transmission, never had any issues with mine and it is the same transmission used in many other Dodge vehicles with way more HP, perhaps you are thinking of the old 4 speed with the 3.8L before '12.

I will sa

The nice thing about having a Rubicon JK is that when I bought it in 2008 I paid $32k, and am looking to sell it for $17K. The resale values of 10 year old Jeeps is crazy due to the price of the new ones and is making it much more palatable to get to the price increase.
The resale values of all Wrangler Unlimited's is insane. The last I read in Car and Driver said that they were worth 67% of their value after 5 years. I have a '15 Sahara and I was right side up after 1 year of payments. It's been paid off for about a year and a half and it's worth almost 30k. This number is an average from KBB and what recent ones similar to mine have sold for on Ebay.

I'm getting a Sport. I want a no frills experience. I would like a Rubicon but I don't want all the nonsense like power windows, power locks, bigger screens, navigation, safety stuff etc.... that comes with it. So I will just have to go aftermarket with the off road stuff that I do want.
