Snatch strap works too.
As in a stretchy (kinetic) strap or rope should never be used as a winch extension.
A regular tow strap, one that isn't designed to stretch and recoil would work.

Correct. That's why I didn't say kinetic rope.

Ok👍 But a lot of people are gonna think snatch and kinetic are the same thing.

I have a lower priced rough country 9500 lb winch. It came with steel cable but I replaced it with synthetic rope. I have used it on and off for 3 years, sometimes in serious situations and it has worked flawless. I do like the synthetic better. I don't like handling the steel and it is heavy and can be dangerous. I don't think you will be disappointed with any number of the winches out there... (The picture is when I just purchased it and still has the steel cable.)

Did you have to make any changes/adjustments to put synthetic on a winch set up for steel cable line? Did you take the tensioner off and roller fairlead off? I am looking at doing the same thing.

I went from steel to synthetic rope on the HF 12k winch. I got a HF hawse fairlead, removed the tensioner. Most winches have a threaded hole on the side of the drum for the typical rope ending metal piece. Mine didn't so I cut off the end, put on a piece of heat shrink tubing, and inserted the end into the hole for the steel cable terminus. I also went from the set screw to a longer button head with the end pointed to retain the end of the rope better.

Alot of great info here and I appreciate the feedback. I went with the rope option from QT and the QT winch bumper. It looks like its all plug and play. I've read some have had to slightly trim the skid plate to get the bumper on and others who didn't. I'll find out soon enough.

Nobody with an Engo winch? I had one on one of my LJs and worked flawlessly. Synthetic line. Pulled a few rock crawlers up obstacles they couldn’t make it as well as let a jk back down an obstacle when he broke.

I have heard of JK people with them and really had not heard anything bad except that felt they were slow. I have been really happy with the HF Apex 12K with synthetic rope. The one on my JK gets a lot of use on the trails, mostly rock. On a trail called White Whale at Kairos in WVA, needed it 4X 2 weeks ago and it just keeps working. The Apex on the Gladiator is used more for around the yard and when removing trees from the highways with the FD. They are one of the fastest winches out there for under $1K. On my JK, money was not an obstacle when replacing the old Badlands winch but the specs on the Warn were not as good as the Apex. At $479 (25% off coupon) I can replace it 3X over the Warn Xeon.

I'm very pleased with my Badlands 12k synthetic from HF. It's pulled me out a couple of times, pulled friends out a couple of times and pulled a bunch of trees out of the yard. The wireless controller works great. It's nice to be able to be in the driver's seat working the winch when needed. Wouldn't hesitate to buy it again if I needed another one.

I use a Warn EVO10 that came with wire rope. I swapped it over to Tactical Recovery Equipment 20k lb HDWPE synthetic. I use my winch along with snatch-blocks, and other accessories several times a week. Never had a failure or doubt in my mind about a recovery.

I own a medium size printing company.
Might be too late but I wouldn't get less than a 12000 lb winch.

I bought a Rugsel 13.5 with synthetic rope on Amazon mainly because of price and like warn evo’s they are designed in US but made in China. Had high hopes But not to be. Installed and hooked up and tried out remote. Winch was making a clacking noise when I tried spooling it back in after pulling some line out. That bothered me some but when the black and red cables to the battery started getting extremely hot, I unhooked it and boxed it back up to return. Warn Evo 10s with synthetic line will be here Friday.

I got a "Stegodon" 9500lb synthetic winch on Amazon a while back for my JL. I used it a few times for some tree/log work and the clutch would no longer disengage. It still functions, but letting the rope out is slooooow. I didn't bother reinstalling it when I traded in the JL for the JT. It may be worth putting it on a hitch plate for log moving, but I wouldn't rely on this thing for recovery.
