“ it Pirate still around? lol I was on it way back in the day, left about the time Camo sold it and started getting flooded with adds.....”

That was a along time ago. I haven’t gone on the forums since I was looking into building an Np232-Dana 300 doubler like 10 years ago. They wanted people to pay for stars and all?? But I still keep an eye on the classifieds

So I am considering trying to get 40’s under my 22 Willys.
Some light reading and researching tells me that pretty much requires Dana 60 ultimates, fender swap and a lift kit.

lifts are pricey but achievable. Fenders are a bit simpler (if still a lot of money) but how in the world can people afford to buy Dana ult 60’s?

just about everything I found said that thy were about 20000 for a pair.
And that doesn’t even include whatever else you have to do after that.

is there a secret way that people manage this kind of mod other than just have fantastic money?

is it better to find them in a scrap yard or something ?
I was lucky to be able to afford the truck as it sat from the factory..............
On the other hand, I see no need for tires that I'd never need or use. They would be so much worse on the highway and snow and ice.

No one who owns a Gladiator is poor.
Judge much?

I have one only because I sold my prize classic car and spent inheritance from my father after he was killed by a sleeping driver. There just wasn't any other way for me to get one.
Keeping up with it ain't cheap.
I have to spread things out over time, do the work myself, and piece together things or changes.
I bought a knock-off steel bumper - and it was two years later I had it powder coated. I bought the winch on sale.
I didn't buy a lift kit (and it's still not really "lifted") - I used parts and pieces and a pair of front springs I saved up for weeks to buy.
The electric add-ons under the hood I made - acrylics, terminal strips from Menards, stuff from Amazon, etc.

There are far more expensive trucks out there - in fact if you add to the others that which the Gladiator comes with, they often balance out, meaning Gladiator isn't all that more expensive in the end.

if you don't need them then don't get them just to ride around on the pavement.
IMO, too much rubber looks more like a toy, and "fat". Not good aesthetics. Proportions are off when a truck is so slim and small but the tires fat. It only works well and looks good on a monster truck. I guess some like the monster truck look on a Jeep, though. Rather funny seeing them on the highway.

My first question would be "do you need them - REALLY, or just "want them""? There's better ways to change the looks.
But if you need them and really wish to abuse it in the rocks - best be prepared for the $$$ to flow out of your hands.

After it got bought out and ruined by Vertical Scope someone started it back up as Irate4x4. Not sure how it compares to the Pirate of old though.

Whether it's axles, or side by sides, or you name it hobby and you're wondering, "how do people afford it?," there's one of two options: they're affluent, save well, and can afford it, or they finance it and are up to their eyeballs in debt. For the vast majority of people in the U.S., I bet you can guess which is most common...

Start a new account and post an intro as the owner of a stock gladiator who plans on adding a leveling kit.

If one of the first comments is something along the lines of STFU don’t come back unless you post a picture of your wife’s tits I guess well know.?

Totally agree. I hate seeing them with super large tires and rarely any dirt on them. What really gets me is the guys who throw 20's and 22's or larger wheels on with super skinny low profile tires. I've thought about going up to 38's but then I ask myself do I really need them. I could probably do 95% of wheeling the way it sits now as far as the type of off road stuff I would be doing. The only thing I have considered is maybe going another inch higher in lift but then I also ask myself the same question, do I really need it.

I think a good Katzkin interior would be more practical to me than throwing money at 40's and maybe adding power locks to my base jeep. I could do both for less than $3000.

I love my Gladiator but I know in order for it to do serious crawling it will need at least $20k and even then it’s most likely going to take body damage due to the departure angle. So I am building a TJ that I can beat up. Probably cheaper than modifying a brand new Gladiator.

Pirate of old would light anyone up for anything. You go there. You had to have a flame suit on at all times. Used to go there for shits and giggles.

Dude…. We got into DP4 side by side racing last year…. Anyone who thinks Jeeps are expensive…. Don’t ever dare racing SXS…. ? even this topic of swapping tons is a joke in comparison.

Similar boat… we had big plans for the gladiator…. Pretty sure we are settling with 37’s, bobbing the bed and skid plate…

LJ with a 2.8 Cummins is our way forward. Considered another JKU…. Nah….

Exactly, the Gladiator will be a capable vehicle for sure but the TJ or your JK will be purpose built.

I work at a camping resort and the amount of “younger couples” coming in with brand new diesels and nice new trucks and 38-42 foot toy hauler 5th wheels with 8,000$ golf carts is absolutely mind boggling. Like people in they’re early 30s. A lot of these rigs are like 70-80,000$ for the truck and another 80-100k for the fifth wheel.
so yeah a built gladiator doesn’t seem to bad to me. We see people with a built jeep and think money. Which it is don’t get me wrong but we don’t drive by everyone’s house and judge them on they’re massive mansion or they’re 150,000$ Escalade. I tell my wife that
when we drive down the road. If she sees a built truck she’s says looks like they have money lol. I say, you didn’t say anything when the g wagon just went by!!! Haha idk it’s just money who cares what people do I guess.

These forums are great for getting ideas and advice for mods and general repair/ maintenance. No one should feel obligated to do a mod just because everyone else is doing it. There are plenty people on this forum that have tons of mods. There are also plenty people with zero modifications.

I appreciate seeing what others have done to their Jeeps, whether or not I am interested in doing it myself, even if it has 6 wheels and a hemi. Cool ideas, but not what I would do.
