Technically, this was yesterday and it's not been DONE to the Jeep yet, but my shiny, new MetalCloak front bumper arrived! The only teensy-tiny disappointment?

They weren't able to put "From Santa" on the box or the shipping label like I asked, so I could tease the wife.

But, I've got an install date scheduled at a local shop, a Badlands 12K winch sitting in the house to go with it, so no complaints.

Perfect time to start buying tools. Take that labor cost of installation, buy tools, and enjoy your build.

While I'd love to do the install (and I'm pretty sure I can, with the tools I have,) I'd need a new assistant...

The wife just doesn't cut it, she couldn't lift and hold the main part of the bumper and I'd expect her to have an issue understanding when I tell her to put the bolts in the holes and getting them lined up while I hold it up...

Which is kind of the main reason I'm paying to have it installed...

Jack and 4x4’s will hold it up for you. It’s easier than you’d think. I’ve done my steel one several times alone.

True. I did mine by myself with the winch plate hanging.
Once you get the bumper hanging on the studs you hold it up with one knee and put the nuts on.
One key trick is to loosen the re-enforcement brackets behind frame mounts so the studs go through easier. If you’ve ever done it you’ll know what I’m talking about

The last part is key. I did not loosen those nuts and could not get mine to line up. Ultimately I got frustrated enough that I took it in and had it installed. If I had just loosened those frame mounts I would have saved myself some money.

Yup.
I fought with that for about a half hour before taking a break to re-focus and then realized I could loosen and back those brackets out to clear the mounting holes.
Overall the entire install was a good experience because I'm learning to work on and mod my Gladiator.
It's a very satisfying result.

Finished the instal on the Long Range America auxiliary fuel tank. Took two full days because I don’t have a lift, and it was bloody cold!

But, watching 34 gallons get squared away was awesome!

Now, my wife and I can go to the Bay Area and back without having to refuel in California with their ridiculous prices.

I have called my wife out in similar situations when I have had her help me with like tasks. Usually when they play the "I do not understand" bullshit, it is just their way of saying they really do not want to help.

I think she does want to help, it's more I know I sometimes don't explain things clearly, especially if it's something I "get." And, honestly, I might be selling her short, at least on the bolt issue.

But, I'm still going to stick with the plan, have the shop I went to do the install in a couple weeks. Gives me a relationship with them for future upgrades.

My passive entry kit came in and today I put it in. I didn't break any records doing the install but I was in my warm and dry shop. I will see if the wife even notices something different.​
