I’m going to do this mod, but not with the HK speakers. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, those HK speakers from mopar look kind of cheap, tiny little magnet, etc. (even at $65/pair), though I am sure they sound better than the stock Alpines because they have a tweeter.
The ones from Terra Acoustics look really nice, but $249 (with the custom tweeter ring), is kind of steep for a pair of 3.5” car speakers..
I just order these Infinity REF307 speakers for $100 (they come with cable adapters for plug and play)
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R307F/Infinity-Reference-REF307F.html
I should have them installed this weekend.. I’d like to also try the rears at some point, but will probably stay away from the knee speakers because they look to be kind of a PITA to deal with from what I understand (especially the drivers side)..
I upgraded my sound bar speakers last week to the Alpine 65-jlt restyle. I’d be very interested if anyone has these Infinity dash speakers with those in the sound bar. After swapping them, it was glaring how bad the dash speakers are. I can’t get clear high ranges anymore.

Then make a new thread! I’m sure people have put everything under the sun between us and the JL guys…

Absolutely! I just always like to have a baseline though, just me..
But how it sounds is most important, without doubt.. When I used to be a CI in the Home AV field, I dealt with many people that knew what they liked as far as audio, and it always came down to the sound they heard, which sometimes was different from what I liked (though there was also the WAF, lol). In the HT world though the variables are even more so in my opinion. It’s usually all about the room first, shape, acoustic properties, use of proper room treatments, etc. The next biggest influence on the sound reproduction are the speakers.
Totally agree about sensitivity and resistive load as well. Two things stand out to me when comparing the OEM speakers and the Infinity’s. First, the Infinity’s actually measure at 3 ohms. However, they also measure at 91dB sensitivity, though it’s not measured at 1M, they used at 2.83v (hate when they do that). But based on experience, I’d be willing to bet the OEM speaks are probably half as sensitive as the Infinity’s too.. It will be easy for me to tell compared to the stock Alpines when I replace them this weekend. I planned on just replacing one first and leave the other Alpine connected. I have an SPL meter, etc. Nothing I haven’t been doing for years. Now that I’m a little older though, I am less enthusiastic about experimenting to the level I used to back in the day..?
Back in my CI days I was involved in a few real double blind tests. Quite the endeavor, and really eye opening to say the least!?
Did you happen to get your Infinity speakers installed and do any test? I have been leaning this direction and just curious about the results and if you are pleased with them. Also are you talking about the Infinity Reference REF307F speakers?

Per the reply to my post, you shouldn’t ask questions about the infinity speakers. You’ll get scolded to start a new thread.

LOL. Yea I saw that. He mentioned doing a test on them so I was just curious the results. Maybe you're just a trouble maker and everyone knows it.

Put some Infinity Reference REF-375TX or similar tweeters in the dash to get clear highs. Putting a coax in there will result in it's mid range over powering your upgraded sound bar speakers.

Yes, I am talking about the REF307F’s.
I just installed them and they sound great compared to the stock Alpine “upgraded” system/speakers. Clean highs and clear midrange. Using an SPL meter, they also averaged 1-2dB higher than the stock speakers. Very happy with them.
The OP is right, if you change just the dash speakers with true 2-way quality speakers can make the overall system sound so much better! Thanks to the OP!

Even my 22 year old son got in to listen and said it sounded way better/extremely clean..

That's great to hear. I have heard that some people think the high's are too much but others love the sound. Are the high's overwhelming to you or a good balance? Was thinking the Infinity or the

For me the highs are not too much at all. That will vary from person to person as to be expected. But I leave it flat and love the sound, but then again I am 56 years old, and over the years they have heard a lot of very loud music and movies in my home theaters..

LOL. Yea I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm older than you and have had my share of loud music myself through the rock and roll years. I know sound is subjective but I think I'll give them a shot. The guy at Crutchfield said I could easily swap them out if I wasn't satisfied so I really don't have anything to lose. Appreciate the info.

Per your advice, I put these in yesterday. I have also decided to put in a small amp, but the clear highs are completely restored. Thanks for keeping me away from a coax. Alpine SPV-10TW-WRA

I decided to try a set of Terrra Acoustic speakers to see if they were better than the Mopar upgrade speakers I bought after reading this thread. The speakers the OP gave us the part number to in the first post are WAY BETTER than the Terra Acoustic speakers. I believe the problem is because the Terra acoustic 3.5" speaker is 6.8 ohm, the stock speaker and Mopar upgrade speakers are 3.8 ohm. You can barely hear the Terra Acoustic speakers... in my opinion the Terra Acoustic speakers are a downgrade from stock.

These Mopar Upgrade speakers the OP found are defiantly the way to go.... Good Find OP!!
