I just can't bring myself to run the oil much over 5k. I just changed it again, with 5,200+/- on it while the oil life indicator was at 41%. Anybody else stuck in this mindset? The whole "it's cheap insurance" thing is something I've subscribed to with all of my vehicles. But in this era of rampant inflation, I"m considering extending service intervals on everything but I seem to have a mental block on this, especially with this particular Jeep.

I do mine about every 10000km/6000miles and rotate the tires at the same time. So far none of my Jeeps have exploded or imploded so I guess it works. My oil indicator barely got the 6000miles this time. Lots of mellow off-road driving and also falling asleep in the Jeep with it idling a couple times camping.. I just finished the change outside in 20F temps 10 minutes ago!

Well, first oil change and filter earlier isn't a bad idea. On using a shorter cycle isn't bad for the vehicle. I've yet to run down the oil change guage to zero. Plus I regularly send a sample of for testing. Even it comes back with lots of life available on oil.
As others have done get one of the easy valves for your oil pan it makes it a no mess job. Quick and easy low budget thing about $35.°° job. I run the oil around 7-8k and change it, around the same cycle I use in my 05 Wrangler Unlimited with 4.0 it's going well at over 255500 miles and 20 years running synthetic oil only.

Yup, i have the same sickness that only makes sense to me. When my oil life indicator points at 50%, it’s change time and that’s about 5000-6000 kms. I promise you, you’ll be ok.

I am in the 5K mile change camp and have even been kicking the idea of going to 3K-4K mile change interval.

Cost can be anywhere from under $22 if using Walmart SuperTech oil and filter to the skies the limit on whatever favorite brand you like. That is like less than half a tank of gas or even fast food take meal out nowadays worth that I can find the funds to ensure it gets changed when I want it to and not really worry about cost.

What Oil Life Indicator??? LOL.. With the modern Synthetic 6 to 7 k is my interval. Always a MOPAR Filter too; not an aftermarket filter.

I'm actually more curious when you change out transfer case, tranny, and differentials fluids...do you stick to the intervals the manual specifies?

Mine is a weekend vehicle until I retire so in an average year I rarely drive 3-5k miles. I change it once a year regardless of miles. My original owner 1993 Silverado gets a change every 2K and all three of my Harley's get one between 2-3K as well.
