Auto, because a stick with the diesel isn't an option. And I've got my other manual vehicles I can always jump in for some gear slamming.

Manual is way more fun, but I also get a bit annoyed with the throttle lag on any vehicle new enough to use drive by wire

Many posts about how the auto is better for mileage, towing, and in traffic. In traffic is not an issue as the clutch is second nature to me. I don't tow anything heavy, if I wanted mpgs I would not buy a jeep. There is one performance area that the manual exceeds the auto, admittedly by a very minimal amount and unimportant to most people, however the manual is better at going slow with an 84:1 4x4 low ratio. I don't remember but the auto is 70 something to 1.

Oh did I mention rowing your own is more fun!!!

People not asking to borrow your truck is a severely underrated perk.

I got really excited when I saw the Gladiator towing and payload specs and that it was available with a stick driving all four wheels in all trims. Topless no less. And then I saw the spec sheet - I really hate that FCA is forcing us to choose between the fun of rowing our own gears and being able to tow more than 4000 pounds. Truth be told, I don't know which way I'll go yet. Decisions, decisions ...

I am sticking with the auto so that I don’t have to be the one to run to Home Depot 3 or 4 times every weekend because my wife cannot drive a manual. On the mustang, however, I specifically got a 6 speed because the wife cannot drive a stick. Way too much horsepower for her lead foot so she doesn’t need to drive it anyway.

Im going with the auto.

#1 I have old folks knees at 42 years old
#2 I like to ride with my leg hanging out the door hole.
#3 I drive a lot at work. When I get off I just want to enjoy my ride and an auto does that for me.
# 4 I'm not good at power breaking with a stick.

I cant decide......I love that the automatic is a smooth reliable trans....but its a lifestyle truck....I think I want the fun of shifting and feeling what it is doing.....Thoughts?
Manual for sure. Haven't owned an automatic for 40 years. I can't determine if the diesel will be offered with a manual though. Anybody know?

The ZF auto transmissions can be electronically shifted manually by the press of a button. So you can have the automatic in any gear you want. Yes it is SLIGHTLY slower than a actual manual and not fun but you still have the option to pick gears if you want.

Manual trans since i dont plan to tow and its actually one of the huge selling points for me. Very slim pickings for a 4x4 pickup with a manual these days. I looked at Tacoms and Frontiers but have held out because of the Jeep. I only buy manuals because its all the should exist, accidents would be cut in half if there was no auto trans, people would be forced to pay attention. Driving auto is no fun either.
