SoCal is sticking it to us on natural gas too my natural gas bill is 190 a month and I don't even use my heater that's just gas range gas dryer and gas water heater
That’s insane. Ours is like $30/mo in non winter months when we don’t use the furnace. We have an electric dryer.

California was a great place to live for many decades until the state turned super liberal. Now it's the number #1 state for the highest number of people leaving.

I'm on the budget plan for natural gas which is my furness, stove, and hot water heater. My monthly bill is $135. Have the temp set to 71F, and it's 4F outside.

Heard that you can't rent a U-Haul to take out of state.

My water is free. Just had to buy a softener and RO system. Pay for well repairs. Buy salt and filters. And pay a sewer bill. And I still buy bottled water. 😆

$250 + $190 = $440. How much is your electric bill per month (on average)?
Would be $1200 spring/summer/fall ( gets 110 here some months... I am 20 miles from the beach but on the other side of a mountain range where it's pure desert ) and $500ish winter. That's WITHOUT the EV. Luckily with electricity I was able to do something about it. My house gets full sun I have a large roof with much south and west facing slopes.

Installed a $35,000 solar system. 14.4kw, 33 panels. 30% rebate on that of course that's gone now but I got it. NEM 2 for 20 years. With my previous usage plus the EV I'm at about 50 bucks a month and that's just non bypassable charges and taxes. I run my air conditioner at 67° 9 months of the year and drive the EV 15,000 miles a year. NEM 2 is gone now. NEM 3 is current. Now if you don't buy $20,000 worth of batteries it's hard to make the cost worth it but I am grandfathered for the next 17 years.

Wish I could offset my water and gas but I have nowhere to get those things other than the utilities. When my gas appliances fail they will be replaced with electric. 400 amp electric panel installed and ready for anything.

The solar paid itself off in 2 years. All electricity is basically free now so I won one battle.

California always finds a way to win though. A law was passed where they are going to charge customers a minimum electric fee based on your income. That makes sense.....right? Hopefully it doesn't stand up in court. Imagine your utility costs are based on your income. I guess it's no fair that I bought solar. I played the game and won but you can't have that!

Again why don't I leave? I'll stay as long as I can fight. This is my home.

"According to Consumer Reports, EVs from the 2021 through 2023 model years encountered nearly 80% more problems than vehicles propelled by internal combustion engines. Let that sink in for a second.

Nearly double the issues compared to traditional cars. EV owners most frequently reported troubles with battery and charging systems as well as flaws in how the vehicles' body panels and interior parts fit together.

It's one thing to deal with cosmetic flaws, another entirely when the core technology itself becomes unreliable. Here's the thing.

The survey of over 300,000 vehicles found electric models suffer 79% more maintenance problems than gas-powered cars, while plug-in hybrids fared even worse with a concerning 146% more issues reported by drivers. That makes you wonder what happened to the narrative that EVs are simpler machines with fewer moving parts." - Going back to gas? One person's take on electric failures

I hope California gets new leadership and things change for the better. The 2024 election map showed that a lot of Californias are ready for a change. I also hope you can stay in California for as long as you want. It truly is a beautiful state with a lot of opportunity.

With that said, your higher cost of living is astonishing. I don't make the income that folks in California make, but our lower cost of living makes living in New Mexico very affordable.

Same here. I'm 4th generation Californian. My grandparents owned a home right about where Disneyland is and there was nothing, nothing, around. Very cool pic. I'm still in the OC.

And as much as I'd love to punch Gavin Newsome in the face and leave, I'm looking outside and it's going to be 83-degrees today. My colleagues in the mid-west are shoveling snow to get their cars out. It's very hard to leave.
