Why do owners never take doors/tops off or go off-road?

My 944 cannot hit 175mph, but she’s a dream on a curvy road.

This one can’t either but can easily pull over 1 G in the corners. This makes for a great car to instruct in as anyone can mash the go pedal in a straight line but late braking into a corner and hitting the apex just right is a thrill unlike any other..My street car on the other hand....;-)

I've had all the parts off a couple times on the JT already, but in WI unless I'm traveling close and on the road the doors and top are staying on. Because even in the evening at stoplight can be a mosquito swarm, and hell if I'm taking it into the woods with anything off. And depending on the time of year mosquito can be the least of your worries when the deer flies get BAD. While up north this year, it sounded like it was raining with the 10k bugs I killed with that jeep.

Another reason I see soccer moms with wranglers up here is the snow. Whether they go offroad or take parts off doesnt matter to them when they're confident driving in the snow.

Hard top off and i got it a little dirty on a deer trail today.
The majority of my off road time with the JT will be the beach.

Can someone please explain to me why so many people have Wranglers (and I'm sure it'll be the same with the Gladiators) that never, ever take the tops or doors off or leave the pavement? Maybe because I see so many left and right here in the DC metro area, most of them being Rubicons no less, and the biggest obstacles their vehicles ever see is accidentally tagging a curb.

Seriously, it really has me dumbfounded.

What exactly is the draw for people who have no desire to leave suburbia and urban areas to own these vehicles?

Just curious from a psychological perspective...

Why is it anyone’s business?? Don’t you people have important stuff to worry about?

I didn't read the whole thread but if I am repeating what has already been said I apologize. I would suggest that if a person spends their own money for a Jeep why should I care one little bit what they choose to do with it? I am sure we all do things with our money that others would scratch their head and wonder why. Worrying about what someone else does with their property tells me that someone needs a hobby.

I wasn’t trying to be insulting, my point is why would a person spend their limited precious time worrying about the motives of a free person buying whatever they want to spend their money on. If it weren’t for all of the people who buy Jeeps and never take them off road Jeeps would be way too expensive for most people to buy. If only “wheelers” bought the product Jeep wouldn’t sell enough of them to make it worth their while.

I certainly didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, I thought I was pretty clear in my initial post that I was really just curious why some individuals purchased these types of vehicles and interesting to hear how people use theirs. How some love to drive open air, how others prefer the creature comforts, etc. And if I had already passed judgments, I never would have posed the question in the first place.

For those I seemed to have offended, my apologies...certainly didn't mean to. Those who know me well personally know that I'm the epitome of not giving a flying f@#$ about what others think about how I live my life or spend my money. I wouldn't expect my opinions of others to bear any weight even if I cared enough to make them. So don't be so quick to pass judgement on me please.

Sorry but please do not insult my or others intelligence with this back pedaling response.

You "thought" you were clear in your initial post which you absolutely were. However you were NOT genuinely "curious" nor really interested in how folks USE their jeeps. You were looking for folks to EXPLAIN to you why people purchase Jeep but don't take full advantage of their capabilities (taking off doors/tops or off roading). You were/are being judgmental. Then you go on to criticize the same people you are again supposedly "curious" about by saying "the biggest obstacles their vehicles ever see is accidentally tagging a curb"

After all of that, you make the ultimate statement, "Seriously, it really has me dumbfounded." Maybe it's me but is that your way of saying you're "curious" or "interested" to hear how people use their vehicles?

The truth of the matter is, it's none of your business nor others who support your statement, why someone purchases a vehicle and decides how they will use what they purchase. Even if you are asking from, what did you call it? Oh, a "psychological perspective".

You and others are being very judgmental and are looking to criticize owners for using their vehicles how THEY want and not how YOU would want them too. Doors and roof on 24x7 who cares. Never go off roading, who cares. Want to put 40" tires to roll to the mall. Who cares.

It's not your place to look for explanations on WHY people choose to purchase Wranglers or Gladiators.

Re-read your initial post and then ask yourself were you "clear' around the fact that you were "curious" or "interested' on how people were using their Jeeps? Even though you NEVER used those words.....

I'm not saying you are a bad person and I certainly will give you the benefit of the doubt in that you weren't trying to pass judgment but it sure came out that way.
