Question about adding outlet to bed

Deleted member 28696

Update: So I installed all necessary parts both inside and out from @Cowboy43 list. Button works and illuminates, but there's no power to the bedside outlet (even after swapping the harness out). I have been using Superchips' Tazer Mini in the past for my tires and there's an option in there to enable Aux Switches, but it doesn't work for the outlet. I called Superchips and the guy said that I'll need their TrailDash3 kit to control the bedside outlet. I had to explain several times what I wanted to do, and that I already have a hard-wired button that illuminates but just isn't sending power to the outlet. I didn't want a 3rd screen in my vehicle.

Anyone else use the Superchips Flashpaq for Jeep (F5) and get it to work? So far I've only seen Z Automotive's flash work for people.
Taser JL mini works for enabling the outlet in the bed.

Anyone using Superchips to enable the bedside outlet? The above picture is Z Automotive's Tazer JL Mini as referenced by @PCOIP
I don't know if the Superchips product supports enabling the outlet. The other options to look at are Jscan and AlfaOBD.

$10 @ Home Depot + 2 SAE connectors I already had = 2 12v sources from the 7 pin trailer connector. This connection is always hot, not switched by the ignition as I originally thought.

After some testing, although it is fused for 30 amps I would not put anything past 15 amps on this circuit.

Next version will include some 15 amp fuses.

Right on thanks! Have we confirmed that JScan and AlfaOBD can specifically enable the outlet?

I've been following the thread, but can't confirm without reading it again. Jscan, AlfaOBD, and Tazer are the three most often used for these types of changes.

Thanks for the parts list! I also wanted to recommend for those that are buying parts to shop around. I see there is about 20 bucks in savings for parts and shipping by going through BAM Wholesale Parts. They seem to be the cheapest when it comes to MOPAR/Jeep parts.

Taser JL mini works for enabling the outlet in the bed.
So are you saying that all you need to do is enable the outlet via taser, which will energize the wiring harness that goes to the back of the bed, and then install an outlet to that wiring?

Assuming of course that you have a model with the in cabin 120 v receptacle.

un-Install old harness / re install new harness wiring, Bezel & switch, remove plate, install plug, when all is done then activate the plug last.

UPDATE: Used the Tazer JL Mini to enable the outlet and it works! Will be selling the Superchips as it does not work.

tl;dr thread
Got the 115v outlet in the back seat but not outside in your bed? You're not alone! You can install it on your own and activate it without getting the runaround from Jeep!

1) Purchase ALL PARTS listed within this thread and a Tazer JL Mini from Z-Automotive (unsponsored)

2) Install the parts. Just because the aux button light for the 115v bed outlet turns on doesn't mean it works, you still need to activate it with the Tazer JL Mini

3) Download Tazer software from their site, plug in the Tazer into your computer, update it.

4) Plug Tazer into your Jeep

5) After marrying it to your vehicle, go to the "Other" options and activate the outlet

That's it! You'll know the outlet works when the outlet illuminates after you lift its lid. It has a magnetic sensor on the lid so it will only illuminate when the lid is open.

I plan on installing Renogy solar panels on top of my RoofNest Falcon that has a controller to charge both car batteries and anything else at the same time. I intend on daisy-chaining Solar > Engine Battery > Bed Outlet > Jackery 500 > ARB Zero Fridge so that the battery can charge while on the road and the fridge can still run off the Jackery when the Jeep is off.

Cheers everyone and thank you for the help! Shoutout to:

Can confirm success. Insane how much of the wiring was already there - switch plug was just dangling, and the harness swap was almost too easy. Swapping out the dash panel was pretty straight forward - just separate the front panel from the inner lining and just swap that part out, no need to swap the liner as well. Outlet was also straight forward - I have spray in liner so I just had to score a line right at the raised edge and that ended up being the perfect square I needed.

Had a hiccup enabling it in Tazer the first time - it said "Try Again", but then it said it was enabled, so I went through a reboot. The switch was working, but didn't see power at the outlet. Got a little nervous, but I went ahead and toggled it off and on in Tazer again (no error this time), did a full reboot, and it was fine.
