I’m not willing to sacrifice that much bed (mostly because it would stop my bikes from fitting) but that’s quite impressive! How big is the tank?

I hear you, that was my thought too a year ago. Now, my truck is basically a dedicated off-roader that occasionally does chores. So 10 minutes to pull stuff out of the bed isn’t a big deal.

I’m also planning to chop the bed soon and step up to 40s once all my axle upgrades are done. Which means the spare is moving into the bed. If all goes according to plan, there will still be room to slide things under both racks and plenty of room at the end for a big cooler. Also, going to add dry storage where the spare was mounted. We’ll see, these projects should keep me busy this year If nothing else.

The tank is 5 gallons, enough for a nice head start on each tire. The speed was appreciated in the last couple trips. When we got to the parking lot it was dark, snowing, windy, and cold.

Where the three come together right under the wheel are tight cuts for welding. Are you able to drop a more vertical also from that point to the lower bar? Would prevent possible flex of that upper

I own an AiRocked TJ. It's my second one. Both have the York Compressor's under the hood, so I would say I have about 14 years worth of experience with them. They are extremely reliable and Ive never had a clutch go out on me, so they do not interfere with the rest of the stuff on the serpentine belt. It's just a matter of making sure the belt tension is correct and then you can forget it. If it's too tight or too loose, you will know because it will squeal.

I recently installed this model in my #NewToMe TJ Rubicon
https://offroadonly.com/shop/on-boa...york-compressor-with-finned-head-tj-specific/

The Kit from ORO is a solid one and has everything you need. It isn't cheap, and you can piece it together if you wanted to, but getting it from ORO ensures you have everything you need from someone who has been providing this stuff for almost 2 decades now.

I only have a tiny 1 gallon tank, but it does the trick. Compared to most people, my OnBoard Air is way more active.

On the Street, the AiRock has an active mode, which is used to keep the tub level during turns.
That requires venting and refilling the air in the bags. The amount depends on how aggressive the driving and turns are. It also maintains a set height

Off-Road, I have the height set slightly higher and the OBA is used to activate and either disconnect/re-connect my front swaybar called the SwayLoc. It requires 50psi to keep it open.
Depending on my Rock Crawling, I adjust the height of the jeep and lean in any of 8 different directions if needed to get to a better C.O.G.

At the end of the day, I use it to air up my tires. Setting the engine RPM to 3000rpms helps with that.

I wheel east coast Black/reds, so my TJ is constantly put to the test.
Below are 2 pics of the york installed [Not great and the engine is dirty AF] The rest of the pics/information on my TJ can be found in this showcase

It may not eliminate your need for a larger Air Tank, but IMHO, the Yorks work much better than the electric compressors.

You make a good point. You would want enough gap that each piece can be welded individually, instead of doing them all at once.

Thank you!

I had considered the York when I was planning the build, but didn’t want to bury another accessory in there. It’s grear to hear that it’s been so reliable for you. I’ll keep that in mind for future iterations :)

Finished version 3 of my air system mount.

Much more stable than the last one, easier to lift out. My welding was also better!

Did you also make that tank?

I had a Kilby York compressor setup in my ‘99 TJ that I ran air tools and all off of with a 2.5 gallon tank mounted inside the tailgate. Loved the setup and was looking for something comparable for my JKU - never found so running 2 electric compressors and two 2-gallon tanks on it
Hopefully, they’ll make a compressor setup for the diesel Gladiator I have on order now.

Read thru the complete build here and it’s awesome! Glad to see there are some women who love this as much as the guys and doing the work yourself puts it over the top! Looking forward to what’s coming next

Hey Elise, Love how you designed and mounted your air tank and compressors to the slide rails. Totally believe you can have it out of there in 10 minutes.

Are you using a Speedflate type system? Seems to me you wouldn't need the tank and all the room it takes.

I've got a ARB Dual Compressor that I'm going to mount on the side of the bed under the tonneau cover. I've ordered the speedflate system but have no idea when it [or the damn Gladiator I ordered in Oct] will show up.

You make some good points. I work from home so while my JT is technically my daily driver it’s really just a toy. It does get used for “truck” things occasionally, but not really that often. I hadn’t considered that you were building your set up to be easily removable when necessary.

You really seem to think your modifications out. As someone who is aiming for light weight and higher speeds this time around, but who used to do the heavy gear and rock crawling I’m excited to see where your build ends up.

I’m not, though I’ve seen a couple other people use them and they look like it could be nice, just not my cup of tea. Too much air line to store inside the truck :/

Elise, on your aluminum welding, are you using MIG or TIG?

MIG with aluminum is kind of a PITA, seems to trap and draw dirt which is a nono with aluminum. If you're using a 110V machine then you aren't hot enough to really stack the dimes.

The best way to weld aluminum is with a TIG, but you need a high frequency (or square wave) machine and they aren't cheap. But with such a machine you can weld Coke cans together and stack the dimes.
