33's vs 37's mpg difference makes no sense, that truck is not calibrated.

Look at your watch, set cruise to 60. how long does it take to go from one mile marker to the next one? one minute?

I doubt it

I get 17-19 on freeway with 37’s and 4.10 gears, with the v6. 15-16 in town
Same as well. Then again I live in GA and not Colorado. Not completely flat, I do spend decent time in the N. GA mountains, but that's definitely not the Rockies...

I would question too if OP calibrated for both the tires and the gears. 10 Seems low unless you drive it like a sports car. I definitely drive different in my little 4cy altima than I do my truck.

Don't know about you all with diesels. But my diesel price is lower per gallon than gas. Usually around 10 cents.
Any other word from the OP on this?
Diesels is 60¢ more per gallon than regular unleaded here. It's interesting the difference. I'd imagine it all comes down to taxes.

OP needs to report back if his ECU was calibrated for the gears and tires.

Also needs to hand calc fuel economy.

Since we have the areodynamics of a brick wall, mph is the biggest hit to fuel economy.

I get 12-15 going 80-85

I keep seeing mileage all over the place from individuals on this forum. There are several that don't understand why I don't care for my JT as a daily Driver, well, 1st of all, I love my JT, but with 5.13 gears, 5x 76lb tires, I am truly getting just 10 mpg's on the highway. Now to be fair, when I throw my 33's with the stock wheels on, I get 20mpg. When I had the stock baloney skin Desert Dueler's, I got 22 mpg, great right? When I have the 37's on, and I go about 45-ish, I'm up to 18. and I'm not complaining about my JT's mileage because I know how to get better mileage, but once again, I have a car for that. My truck has never done better off road since I put the 37's on and changed the gearing. I wouldn't change a thing. My main point is, It's all a trade off, and different parts of the country require different setups. I live in the Rockies, go to MOAB and Ouray every year since I've had it, 2 now, going on 3. I hate the mileage going to the play areas, but I love the truck when I'm at the play areas. Big Bear was the deciding factor for going to the 5.13 gears. Rock gardens were painful with 37's and stock 4.10 gearing. Now that its assembled, it is a blast. I don't mind it being amazing for trails, and horrible as a DD, it's the nature of the beast with a 40 mile round trip to work. Gas cost alot, and the tires were $450 ea. last time I checked, so while I am a true believer the JT is not the ideal DD, it is a hell of a truck if you build it the way you need, and I'm sure I'm on the off-road end of the spectrum. So what ever you use your JT for, make it the best and share with everyone here what you use it for, so we can all learn. I love seeing JT's everywhere, but my favorite place to see them is in the wild, on the trails, in the Jeep Meca country and I love seeing the smiles and the side panels plastered with BOH's. So until gas is completely out of hand, I will save the bulk of my miles for trails, and the not the pavement jungles of the city. I'm going to hit 4-5 more trails this year, and I really hope to see you and your JT on those trails, because thats where the smiles are the biggest and the JT was meant to shine.

Something is not right. I get better than that on the highway with very heavy 37s, 5.13s, and pulling a 3500 lb camper.
My 37’s and 5.13’s go on soon. I hope I have the experience you’ve had. But either way, I needed (wanted) the ground clearance for the Colorado and Utah rock crawling I do. Also live in the Rockies. So also maybe on one end of the spectrum. If I didn’t rock crawl, I’d stay with 33’s and rubicon suspension.

The 37s will treat you well in your neck of the woods. We have taken the Gladiator there several times. It has done an amazingly good job.

Yup I’m scratching with you. I scoot around Houston heavy footed as the Iron Giant and I still average close to 15mpg on 33s and 4.10s. 19mpg on highway trips driving 70-80 mph.

Hopefully OP gets a solution because 10 MPGs seems really low unless he/she is constantly driving up a mountain lol.
You must be on the Beltway or 99, anyone that drives in Houston, knows that people around here have to drive 10 miles under the speed limit, especially in the morning during the week. ??

Lol no I live in the Heights and commute like 15 minutes to Northwest Freeway for work. That 70-80 number is from road trips I’ve taken in the past.

Houstonians drive slow AS HELL lol

It does an amazing job as a mostly stock rubicon on 33’s here. I just want less skid plate scraping. It should be epic with a 3.5” lift and 37’s.

This. When I first got my gladiator I had to take a long work trip. I made like 17 mpg for a long stretch on I-5 which is totally flat and mostly straight. Needless to say I was pretty flummoxed. It was way off the advertised 22+ mpg. The good news is the way back I averaged over 22 with no/tail wind.

It depends on what numbers you use to calculate it, what economy you'd actually get in the real world on each version, and what the cost of gas vs diesel is in your area. When I played with the numbers, the payback period could be as soon as 36k miles or way out past 100k. Using the current prices from my closest station for regular versus diesel, and assuming an average of 15mpg on gas or 25mpg on diesel, it would be around 42k miles. If I use the values from the window stickers of 19mpg vs 24mpg, that takes it to something around 110k. But that does not account for the extra maintenance costs (DEF, oil changes, fuel filters, etc.).

Note: I am neither pro nor anti diesel, heh. And it's definitely a great option for those looking to run tall and/or heavy tires.
Run that calculation again with 16mpg gas and 24mpg diesel … I have had BOTH gas and now a diesel gladiator … diesel on 35’s always got 16mpg, city and highway, I could get it down to 14mm if I am heavy on throttle. Maybe squeak out 18 I’d I drive 65 on the highway. The diesel does about 24mpg and can touch 29mpg going slow in the highway. At worst I’ve seen 20mpg doing 80+ in a storm with strong headwinds.

This is all driving city and highway mixed, the upper “highway” numbers are purely highway, traveling.

I would say doing what I do, day to day, gas is a 16mpg truck and diesel is 24.

Also factor in that gas NEEDS a regear, 3.73 gears sucked with 35’s. There goes $2500. Diesel is almost unusable phased by 35’s. Again, I can report back when I go to 37’s. I’ll be sticking with KO2’s which weigh about the same (35 and 37) and run a little small.

Maybe the OP went on vacation without cell service after leaving such a teasing question.

4.10 stock gears with mine on 37's, mine weigh 72lbs a piece and I average just above 17 most of the time in mine. I'm around 16.7 right now since it's been cold and snowing in my area but as soon as it gets above 40 degrees I'll be back above 17.

Between wheels & tires I'm at 117lbs per corner and I'm averaging 14 mpg. :(
