35's on gladiator...regear?

On the Willys I traded for the JTR, I had 33" mud tires. When I went from 32s to 33s I honestly didn't notice a difference. Granted, I don't do pedal to metal most of the time but when I did it accelerated great. The one thing I noticed is that the speedo was 100% accurate with GPS and speed radar so I didn't reprogram. I'm suspecting it had been programed for 33" before I bought it. My plan is going to 35" shortly for the JTR but I'm not sure what setup. For now I am seriously looking at the GY Wrangler Territory 315/70R17 because they very light weight. For wheels I am trying to convince my wife that we need Fifteen 52s Metrix HDs because I find the stock wheels hideous. If it had other stock wheels I would go with 11.5 tires. I trying to stay at or below the Falken/stock wheel weight of 84lbs. I'm calculating around 84lbs at the corners with the GY and the Metrix wheels. Same weight for the new setup. Circumference will be the factor to consider so I will reprogram. Hopefully I can find the marriage license cable and my ODB dongle to use JScan.

Same with my Willys. The only time it went into 7th was downhill and would go back into 6th once I reached the bottom and I never saw 8th gear. I ended up selling it and going with a Diesel Rubicon instead.

Off topic, but aside from milestar. MT is still pretty light as far as 37s go. I run the same tire but I'm 103lbs ish per corner. What was your weight with the 35in combo? I've seen some guys running 140 plus a corner with 37s.

The 35's I had were walmart special Venom Terra Hunter X/T 35X10.50R17 and only weight 56 pounds each. They were mounted on non XR 392 wheels that weighted just a hair over 30 so I was around 86 pounds with those. The tire/wheel combo was 4 or 5 pounds lighter than the stock Wildpeaks.

Ok..tire and wheel 109 lbs on the corner...I have positive 34 offset...so they tucked under nicely...I am not driving around like a wild ass with my tires in the on coming lane...I'm 64 y.o.....adjusting speedometer should have nothing to do with this....and oh by the way it is only off by 2 mph...so any other thoughts?

It’s not adjusting the speedometer. It’s telling the computer you’ve changed tire sizes and it make a ton of difference.

I bought the same tires last November but sold them after I decided I didn't want to chance 35s on 3.73.

Mine only had 5k on them before I moved up to 37s but they seem like decent tires. They are still mounted and I'll probably keep them as a backup set or maybe use them next winter.

I sold them new. Never mounted them but I did notice how lightweight they were. The tires looked aggressive and cool. I'm consortium those too but I'm afraid they might be tucked in too much with aftermarket wheels or spacers on my ugly rims.

Won't leave 6th? How slow do you drive and how is 100% of your drive up hill both ways? My mojave will cruise in 7th at 80mph all day long and routinely sees 8th on flat freeways. That's with 2" lift, 37s, and stock 4.10s. Sure with the 2 overdrives you could go to 4.88s but you really aren't gaining much aside from rpms under low loads at speed. Gearing does nothing for highway driving that downshifting won't.

They were a bit too narrow for my liking but for the price I had to try a set. For me, that tire in 35x11.5 would have been great on stock wheels

So ...went to jeep dealership today where I bought the JT ...and was emphatically told, by a service manager with 20 years experience, that a Chrysler/Jeep tech would never change the factory computer settings regarding tire size, gear ratio or recalibrate speedometer etc on any vehicle as this would invalidate implied warranty. And....that recalibrating speedometer and/or changing tire size would have zero effect on vehicle performance.

So... I suspect a Tazer Mimi is in my future.
