Can someone enlighten me on this? Not very mechanically inclined, but man, do I feel like I’m getting shafted by the dealership.
Jeep won’t start, 2020 Glad, no mods, and it has 38k miles on it. (2kMike out of warranty?)
Attempt to jump start but the dash reads that the car is in 2H so it won’t start. But in fact it is not in gear, it’s been parked. I can’t get it “out of gear” so I can’t jump it. Have to get towed to the dealership. Whil waiting for the tow, I hear a very faint high pitched noise from under the hood? Very faint. It won’t quit when I disconnect the mail battery. It does quit when I pull a “larger” rectangular fuse. Put the fuse back and it continues to sound. Get towed and the dealer says they have to start with both batteries because they both aren’t passing the test and they are both failing. Both at the same time??? Then he tells me it $898 to replace both!?!!! On a two yr old vehicle!?!? $900 on batteries. And they won’t work with me on the 2k over the warranty. I have no choice. They put the batteries in and says the car tests fine. No issues??? I don’t believe it? Two batteries dead at once? In my mind there’s something else wrong with this car.
And, who makes those batteries? Is it Jeep? What’s the warranty on a battery? Even the cheapest batteries from Walmart have a warranty better than that. Can I go to Jeep customer service? Corporate? The battery manufacturer? I feel likeI got taken big time!
Any advice out there?? $900 is a tough pill to swallow. Thank you!

It is known they had a battery issue coming from the factory (bad batch of batteries )
I have a 2020, built JULY 2019 both batteries were replaced. First the auxillary then I forced the issue of having them replace the main one also.
I would contact jeep cares.

Not sure on an original battery but a replacement would have a depreciating value meaning that if it's a 5 year battery, you should get 3 years value back (or whatever their formula is). The warranty will only cover the battery and not the labor to replace it.

The new batteries are moving away from lead acid to save weight. The new ones, I believe are lithium ion and they are very expensive.

Not surprising just some months ago had very similar the smaller battery went bad and took out the whole truck. They changed out both batteries but luckily was still covered by warranty. Am still debating if I want to move it to the Genesis system and do away with that small battery.

This lithium Ion Batteries are expensive and I'll bet a good bit of the cost was labor. You could of probably found some aftermarket batteries for cheaper and did the work yourself or had someone else do it.

Both of mine had to be replaced under warranty, after taking it to the dealership to check on a constant notification that a battery was charging. My 2020 Gladiator had less than 5,000 miles on it. The dealership tech told me that the ESS was the culprit, so I have disabled mine. There are other threads on this issue.

I know I’m not answering your questions, but: At that price you could swap in a dual battery system + two group 25 batteries. Been running this setup for a couple years now.

Way easier to work with than the stock system and the second battery can act like a built in jump, while taking the load of any accessories.

So is there anyway to check beforehand? I’ve got a 2020 with 34,000 miles and no battery issues. Hate to go through the same thing as the OP.
Mines got 51,000 miles on it and I haven't had any issues. A tech told me that sometimes if you don't use the ESS system and keep turning it off that the battery won't charge or something and that it was wise to let the system do it's thing. He said some of the issues they have saw is when people use weird ways to disable the ESS and then start having battery issues. I always let mine act as it should and never turn it off. Not sure how much truth there is in what the tech said but mines been fine.

Our batteries are not lithium they are agm. For what it’s worth you did get taken. Cost of a good set of batteries should have been around 400 for the set. However they probably bent you over and fucked you dry on the labor and dealer oem parts nonsense. Here I know our oem batteries are shit so let me charge you a premium to replace your shit batteries with new shit batteries!!
