Boiled down, can you replace just the front? Yes.
Should you just replace the front? No.
If you want wide trac axles, replace the set.
I did the same for awhile and it was hardly noticeable. Unless I actually told you there was a difference you wouldn’t notice. No difference in driving or overall ride.I have a wide track ultimate 44 front axle and the narrower rear axle. It works fine. I also have 37” tires and a lot of poke, it might look sillier with OEM size tires. As far as looks go, it’s only ¾” per side.
All the diesels have 3.73 gears, whether Wrangler or Gladiator, regardless of trim. That was posted in 2017, before JT production and at the beginning of JL production - and said "from internal sources" - so were any actually produced?
Weight and torque.Non-rubicon 4xe wranglers have the gladiator hd wide front in 3.73 gears. Our Sahara 4xe has it on the build sheet
And 4x4 cars due to the need for a wider swing of the steering knuckles when turning. It's a matter of necessity in that case and it includes IFS, not just solid axles. In many cases the rear axle width matched the front. In the case of my car, it was a matter of economics - take an existing rear differential, flip the spring mounts and use it instead of building a special wider rear axle just for the production of that one vehicle. Most all older solid front axle pickup had wider front axles.
