Alright, another update for you all with the Insane Diesel bypass and aux. oil cooler. I took it down to Southern Utah last week to do some off-roading.

On the drive there, it's an 80mph speed limit almost the whole way. Nothing is truly flat here but mostly mild grades with a few steeper grades that have passing lanes for semi-trucks. I put the cruise control on 80mph and didn't have to worry about it once. It ran 225-230 oil temp almost the entire time. Up the steeper grades it'd downshift to 7th and climb to 239 oil temp. This is a MASSIVE improvement from my past experiences driving this same road and I'm still on 42s.

42's will stay on for another couple weeks but once I swap back to my 40's, I'll do a quick update.

Do you only have the insane diesel aux or other supporting mods as well?

I have the bypass filter and auxiliary oil cooler. You have to package the bypass filter with the cooler.

Other than that, I've added hood louvers and removed some of the insulation under the hood. Neither of those made any noticeable changes. The louvers let out a ton of heat when I'm crawling and moving slowly and allow the temps to cool off quicker in those scenarios but at highway speeds they do nothing.

Maybe a old fix but I went on a 100 mile trip to Auburn by way or Hwy4 witch has a 8600" pass and is lots of climes and twisties. Oil temps got to 240 and I used the Tazer function to turn the radiator fan on high. after a couple min still climbing the temps would drop to 217*. So maybe when its hotter I wouldn't get as good as a result but for now that's good enough.

I’ll have to dig up your other posts to see exactly what you did exactly. Did you self install?

I just removed the engine cover and hood insulation and am waiting to pick up my motobilt vents from the power coat shop this week.

I’ll be getting a ‘24 grill soon as I can save the green for it and then maybe look for the oil cooler like you have.

Not sure if you ever go further south than sand hallow, but there a number of passes between Vegas and St George, specifically exiting and/or approaching Mesquite that are both steep and long. Ok 37’s and stock gears in summer I see temps hit the 250’s with cruise set to 79mph… of course this is limited to summer months.

My truck has never derated due to oil temp, but last year I did have a heat soak incident when temps hit over 117 ambient. About 10 minutes of idling took care of that.. I’m sure the removal of insulation and hood vents will help with that moving forward.

I had my shop do the install. I’m sure you could do it yourself but running the lines is tedious and time consuming.

Personally I’d save your $1000 on the new grille and just do the oil cooler. Sure the grill gets marginally more airflow but the cooling system is still inadequate. The bypass and oil cooler aren’t very much more than a grille that’s paint matched and it will actually solve your problem.

I’ve done that drive many times although never in this Jeep. If I’m remembering correctly, the grades from St. George to SLC are steeper and just as long. The one from SLC to Park City is the worst though.

The hood vents will allow heat out and is great at slow speeds or when you stop but at normal driving speeds, especially freeway speeds, which is when I see high temps, they made no noticeable difference.

Yeah… I suppose this is one of those “do I buy light bars before lockers?” conversations. I also want to do better insulation and armorlite flooring as I’m sure you’re aware as well, the floor boards get super hot in warmer temps too.

Any pics of your install?

While I'm not really the best test case for overheating as I live in a relatively flat area at sea level, I'll be doing a few heat management upgrades this year for when I'm towing.

Supplemental Cooling System 2021-2023 Jeep Gladiator/Wrangler Diesel (bulletproofdiesel.com)
BladeRunner 3 IN Aluminum Hot and Cold Charge Pipe Kit Black | aFe POWER

Inexpensive upgrades to get better operating temps on the Ecodiesel.
Did you complete these mods? How difficult was it? Any noticeable performance/temp improvements?

anyone actually install AFE’s cold air intake and have any real world results on our ecoD’s? Assuming cold air intake does pretty much nothing just like in other applications.

I have the parts but have not installed them yet. I'm not in a huge rush as its been pretty cool here and the forecast is staying that way for a while.

I'm done a lot of research on the AFE CAI and general consensus is it does nothing, but would love to hear first hand opinion from some reputable members.

I have the AFE intake and based on my Banks Idash my intake temps are usually only 10 to 15 degrees about outside ambient temp which I think is pretty good.

I have the stock intake and inlet temps are typically +3 to 5 degrees above ambient when going down the road. I don’t think any intake is going to help temps much vs stock without a bigger external inlet up front and even then it won’t help much. The AFE does look cool though👍

I bet it does! My preference would be a snorkel/syclone like the one AEV makes with a quick disconnect/conversion kit. I don’t want or need a snorkel on 98% of the time but would like to have it as an option for dusty dirt/desert roads. Plus an open port with oem an looking grill in the side of the hood could actually provide more direct fresh air in summer or with a block-off plate close back to stock in winter or wet weather. For all that functionality I would pay $$$, looks and sound not so much.

id like to see an intake in the hood similar to what comes with the Mopar cold air intake.

Using a Tazar can turn the fan on high and in my case helps min 10*. Does anyone know if its driving the fan rpm to 100% or? Is their a way to reset the fan temp setting so at 220* oil it would go on high. Issue with using the Tazar is the trans temp gauge stops working.
