You got a Lemon thats for sure. 3x's make them buy it back..?

Only have 28k miles so fingers are crossed..

I do not tow but I live at 5k' and mountains all over the place. I'm 7k lbs before loading up, on 38's and a Camper on it..with 3.73's. I've seen 225 water temps but oil was 245*+ thats whats got me worried. gearing may help as was stated and I'll do if needed but oil cooling is what I think in my case help a lot. Trans temps so far max 220* I'd rather see it at 200* same for oil and water but likely impossible.

I need to make sure my fan is on all the time at 90% of max using the Tazar. That helped my LS maintain temps.

I modded my warn 9.0RC to lower its controls lower for air flow.
I read all on hood vents seems no difference in temps driving.
I have vents in the fender liners plus its more cut out to clear the shock's so should be good there.

Well, not all of us live in the USA thankfully. Emission standards are not enforced in Canada as long as you aren't a commercial vehicle, you can run deletes all day long and they won't bother you. I hold no value with the Jeep warranty. I use my Jeep as a Jeep, I fully expect them not to honor their warranty.
Fortunately I've done everything I can to keep my warranty intact. Good thing too as Jeep as paid dealers over $35k for repairs so far under warranty. It's in the shop again now and will probably be 5 to 7k bill, paid by warranty. I bought the 7 year 125K mile warranty and expect that Jeep will end up paying out more than the $64k my Jeep cost new by the time i get rid of it. So warranty is important to me. With the dismal record the JT has in the US for warranty issues, most should be concerned.

I bought a kit that makes my Rubi vents functional and over all it helped about 10 degrees but I still can hit 269 oil temp towing up a mountain.

Simple solution...... LS/LT swap the world.

Smaller platform, less weight, more power and fuckin reliable..........prove me wrong, I'll wait

Yes but shit for mpg's, not sure its any faster as TQ likely won't be as good as the Diesel plus higher in the rpm range and in a Jeep cooling is still a issue. I had a 420HP LS in my last JK and it was about the same weight as my JT. Had 5.38's 40 6l80e etc..JT is so much easyer to drive and at least 0-60 butt o meter seems faster. Also way better mpg's.

like I said before give me a VW 3.0 V6 TDI
..I bet we would not have the heat issues..just a gut feeling..

@jeepin48 thanks for putting together such an informative thread! Very insightful. I must say the first 73 pages very informative and solution oriented. It appears there are plenty of options out there if you love your 3.0D.

@steelponycowboy sorry about your bad luck but stop complaining on this technical thread. Sell it, don’t sell it, or just complain about it on another thread…..or.….offer solutions like other contributors such as @RoamingGladiator or questions that give clarification for others to diesel cooling. And those rumors…oh please do tell who these “well placed sources” are and use names not positions. The CEO said in an official press release it was about electrification when they announce the FarOut edition and the end of the diesels most likely because there is no such thing as a diesel PHEV or hybrid yet. I’m sure your well placed source knows more ?

I know too many with the LS swap that have issues. One caught fire others with integration issues with Jeeps electronics, etc Hemi seamlessly integrates with JL, no issues and passes smog easier since it was used factory in Jeeps

For what my experience is worth- I haven’t towed heavy yet with our JTRD, but with stock tires I’ve seen oil temps up to 246 going over Santiam Pass in Oregon towing our 10’ enclosed utility trailer (probably around 2500 lbs fully loaded) This was with outdoor air temps in the mid 60’s. Coolant was about 215. From my experience back when I owned a 6.0 powerstroke, ideally your Delta-T between the oil and coolant temp was less than 15 degrees. I never saw greater than 15 degrees delta-T after I replaced the oil cooler. On the 3.0 diesel in our JT, I would’ve been at 31 degrees delta-T (246-215=31)
This tells me at least one or more of the following issues are in play, specifically the efficiency of the oil cooler is poor - not rejecting enough heat from the oil into the coolant. This could be a) not enough contact surface inside the cooler between oil and coolant b) not enough flow volume of coolant or oil or c) too high ratio of coolant to oil flow volume - lack of sufficient dwell time for the oil to transfer heat to the aluminum in the heat exchanger plate, or the coolant doesn’t contact the plate adequately enough to absorb the heat. In any regard, a heat exchanger in a cooling system with a delta-T of over 30 degrees is simply not operating correctly. Oddly enough Jeep says the limitation is the cooling stack, however if that were true I would still expect better performance from the oil cooler, albeit with much higher coolant temps… All this to say I wonder if there is a different water pump in Ram applications, or a different coolant line routing design which increases the HX efficiency?

You really should trade that in under lemon law... my god that sounds like a nightmare. I know plenty of people with 100s of thousands of miles/KMs on their EcoDiesels with no issues. I know plenty without, it is what it is when it comes to modern vehicles.

I love my 3.0, absolute torque monster while getting 30+ mpg all day long.

To me it sounds like a combination of getting a truck built on a Friday before a 3 day weekend and extreme use case where you should have a full size. What does your truck weigh vs what it is rated for? It looks like you’re on roughly 37’s plus a living camper shell plus you’re towing 3,000lbs on the regular in extreme terrain?
