So.... I ordered the ECU and also the SM2 clone.... Just waiting for the SM2 to arrive.

I am wondering does anyone know if this process can also back up a GDE tune in case the dealer overwrites it??

Install the guardian driver program

Uninstall the pcflash program

Reinstall pcflash or what ever it's called.

Connect the lowest number version dongle you have, and open the flash software but don't upgrade.

I would be interested in the software you got from another member to see what that is about.

You on a windows pc running 10 or lower?

The dongle unlocks the software, different version dongles unlocked access different ecu packages
I was having same issues. Uninstall your scanmatik software and try installing this. https://scanmatik.ru/downloads/Scanmatik_2.21.22_Setup.exe
scanmatik
PRAISE THE LORD!!! Thank everyone so much for the help. Here are my major lessons learned

1) Install the software in this order Guardian Driver, PCflash, Scanmatik
2) I was provided Scanmatik 2.21.21 in my order and by another member, never realizing my SM2 Pro J2534 was 2.21.22. Check your label on the back and download the appropriate version. As others said google: scanmatik (2.21. whatever yours is) download and it will pop up. Its .ru so all your antivirus stuff will freak. I had no issues
3) I used the green dongle labeled Pflasher V1.20-67, the other included green dongle was not needed for me.
4) the instuctions shared were awesome. I only noticed 2 things.
a) once I had all my programs downloaded and installed, but not opened, I went offline to avoid them checking for updates and screwing me up. Dont know if its necessary but it worked for me.
b) the instructions never say when to plug in the 12v power to the harness. I did that just prior to clicking "read" or "write" and still had to quickly pull it and replug it once the progress window opened but the read or write didn't start.

Thanks to all who dragged me across the finishline kicking and screaming.

Glad you finally got it to work.

Spoke too soon. Jeep wont start with cloned ECU. Radio also wanted the anti-theft code which it seems you have to contact a dealer to get (not in any of the manuals i see). What did I do wrong? Jeep just cycles through diagnotic warnings like "jeep not in park" etc, but wont crank.

Starts right up with original.

No idea. Try cloning it again? Maybe you had a loose connection? My clone went in and fired right up.

So I just got my new/used ECU in the mail from a wrecker. Came from a 21 ECO gladiator. What are your thoughts on the broken plastic parts? Send it back or….?
Thanks

I wouldn't trust it given the crack as you've mentioned but also the oxidation on the pins leads me to believe it sat open-faced or at least exposed to rain for however long.

Yeah I saw the pins looking like chit!
I’m in Canada so with exchange and shipping and all that fun stuff this was the cheaper route to go. As we can see, obviously not! ?
We are travelling to the states shortly, so I guess I’ll buy a new one and have it shipped to the border and pick it up on my way back.
Never did price it out here and have the dealer flash it for me.
Thanks
Clarence

FWIW Mopar Parts Online shows them in stock & on sale for $208.

Is the process of cloning at home purely to save $140 (less actually given DIY dongle/software cost) vs in-and-out having the dealer do it?
I opted to clone myself because my wife and I both have an ED, so that $140 is now $280, I know a couple others with ED that I can clone if they want, and I don't have to be inconvenienced going to the dealer. Just saving that 2-3 hours not going to the dealer is worth saving money.

I would also say that not having a service record of the dealer getting your PCM cloned is probably a good thing, incase of any warranty issues.

Send it back. The bent pins and missing alignment studs from the snapped plastic may damage your female side on install. I would not even test it.

Agree. I thought I put that in there, but must have thought it and never typed it. :CWL:

And the fact that the connection should be water tight. With how far down that is cracked water will get in there no problem and start shorting things out.

Reason I would say send it back is the small pins that are now missing on the broken part, they’re used by the mating connector to guide, and then lock the connector in place. I wouldn’t want that to be lose or just mess up pins or main loom connector due to misaligned pins and a bit too much of force applied.

EDIT: finished reading the thread and @22EcoDs beat me to it.
