Fridge in the bed or the cab ?

In the bed on a slide works for me. I'd like to keep the seats open in the cab. It's not a big deal to take the fridge out, but the slide will take a minute or two to get out.

Old post but worth a shot, how did you mount the slide in the bed? rivnut to the floor?

I have a rubber mat on the bed floor and the fridge slide on that. The arb slide is bolted with 1/4 inch stainless hardware. Rivnuts would be a better choice if you plan on removing it. The predrilled holes in the ARB slide align the the reinforced ribs under the bed. It is not just bolted to the bed floor.

No problems at all. I used stainless rivnuts and hardware. The slide sits on my bed mat and is removed very quickly if needed.

Here's another vote for rivnuts. Been in there since '21 and no problem. Did make a base plate for the bed out of 3/4 birch to mount a drawer slide on and got longer bolts to mount the fridge/kitchen slide over the base plate.

I went with the cab for more room in the bed. I have the Goose Gear 40% seat delete and 50L National Luna fridge/freezer combo. it is a perfect fit behind the driver's seat. I have a 12 volt plug going back to the house battery in the Alu-Cab.

Yes. I installed 2 low profile strap loops on the platform on each end and run tie down straps through each handle. It is very secure with zero movement or rattling.

This is something I am mulling over too as I will probably get a fridge over the winter.

Are the good (Iceco, ARB, Dometic) fridges at least water resistant? They all have exposed control/display panels. I assume they are at least sealed against rain etc.... I don't want to submerse one in the lake, but it might get wet sitting in the bed in the case of rain.

I have an ARB Elements inside my cap , but I surf fish in windy conditions at times and the entire inside of my bed and cap have been white from salt spray I have power washed at car washes many times with no problem , control panel is waterproof, only area they say not to aim power washer at is intake and exhaust grills. I am sure the other brands are perhaps the same way Iceco even has one that looks like an Elements fridge. ARB really push the elements as able to stand up outside in weather, I myself would not have a problem with it in an open bed from the couple years of use I have.
I will say if you had told me I would never take it out of truck and would use it for grocery shopping , or leftovers from dinner I would have said no, but leaving a seafood store after using $100 gift cart for lobster tails, couple types of shrimp, scallops and finger mullet bait then drive three hours home was not a concern, did set the fridge to 5 degrees…..Jack

So I have an 50L Iceco fridge on the way and I'm trying to decide where I want to put it. I dont have rear passenger's so one option is to remove the rear seats, build a platform and mount it up there. The other option is on a slide in the bed. I like the security of having it in the cab plus it would stay out of the elements , however I feel it might be more convenient mounted in the bed. I see most mount in the bed but haven't seen any mounted in the cab. Any insight would be great. Thanks

I had mine in the cab at first now in bed , I have a topper though. What is best for you depends. Running power to the bed, not really hard but something to think about.... If you have the bed power 120 v please don't use it for that. Converting 12v d.c. to 120 v a.c. to reconvert to 12 v d.c. Something I've said to several but many can't figure it out or understand why that's not efficient or smart.

Mine runs almost always for last 5 years, 2 steaks and other meat in it now from grocery store, I have 2 cheap Amazon ones. The newest one developed a bad controller board a replacement part was $35.00 still under $500.00 for both.

I’m not sure how much rain they can take. I keep mine in the camper.

The ARB Elements is specifically designed to be weatherproof. I'm not sure if any of the others are.

When I do these things whether icechest or fridge, I keep it in bed separated by plywood from the bed and it has to be a light color. In ice chest test for instance, the white comes out on top every time even if its a substandard type. I also keep a white towel fastened over the top of the cooler.
