This makes me so happy that JT towing and payload is on level with Tacoma :clap:

I'm guessing JT will have Base vs. Premium because all trims will have the same strength axles (unlike Sport vs. Rubicon on Wrangler). Or maybe they just haven't decided on the trim levels yet, but they know there's only going to be two, so they're calling it base and premium for now. :movember:

Which is weird when you look at the Rams and all the different trim levels it offers.

Very true - I wonder if we'll get as many special editions JT/JL/JLU as we've been getting with JK

There won't be a 2 door by all accounts. 4 door only.

They aren’t meant to be a work truck, this is a leisure truck, and they aren't meant to sell large numbers abroad either.
The Ranger and its Asian counterparts are made closer to market and are meant to be sold in volume, and sold on aggressive pricing.
I get that they are a leisure truck but if they had a payload that was rated to 1 tonne they would have a much better chance of cementing part of the market share due to many many people like me (most dual cab buyers in Aust) who run small businesses and can buy a dual purpose truck and have great tax benefits. And dont worry about aggressive pricing as we are prepared to spend $ on work trucks as business pays for it but cannot justify $70k+ on a car that has no benefit from business expenses! Looks like I will be forced into a BT50, ranger or Hilux. They just dont appeal to me.

I don't think Australian small business owner is a huge target demographic for most automakers, unfortunately.

I'll be an optimist and treat these tow capacity numbers as preliminary. I can't think of what would be limiting it to 6500.

Me too I was hoping for 7K at least. Also at least 1,600lbs for pay load. Oh well it will still work for my needs.

Anyone have ideas on the Base Vs Premium thing????
I'm guessing JT will have Base vs. Premium because all trims will have the same strength axles (unlike Sport vs. Rubicon on Wrangler). Or maybe they just haven't decided on the trim levels yet, but they know there's only going to be two, so they're calling it base and premium for now.
Gladiator Base = Trim Level - Wrangler Sport
Gladiator Premium = Trim Level - Wrangler Rubicon

Or like Kevin said, they haven't figured our trim level names yet.

But how Gladiator was known to be a decal on the hood of Jeep where on Wrangler's "Rubicon" is also a hood decal. Maybe that's why they are not calling it a Gladiator Rubicon, because "Gladiator" will be the decal on the hood instead. Just guessing...

I was also hoping for 7,000+ lbs too but 6,500 lbs isn't bad. That's now 300 lbs more towing than the Grand Cherokee with the same motors and 8 speed transmission that's in the WK2.

I saw on the JL Wrangler page people were wondering what motors were getting the automatic or manual transmission. The letters on the side of the chart are the transmission if you did not notice, to whom that did not catch it.

MAFTA = Automatic
BUX = Manual

At lease, that's what I thought it meant.

But yeah... I really hoped the Gladiator would be towing as much as the mid-size GM trucks. BUT aftermarket will probably help with that. It probably has more to do with the rear suspension to why it's not over 7K lbs.

why not everything else on the market can do both it just seems like a half arsed effort to me
Because it has a specific market segment that it can dominate. Why big a small fish in a big pond where you have to compete on price, versus being a bigger fish is a pond you can have mainly for yourself?

They need to get the pricing they need to recoup the higher costs to make the JT, competing on price as a work truck, especially for an export market, makes little sense.

Nope.

The first one is NAFTA with an N not an M, ie North American Free Trade Accord. Those vehicles are destined for the US, Canada & Mexico.

The second one is a Chrysler acronym which I’ve heard two variations on, B-uilt U-units for eXport or B-uild U-p eXport, which is essentially everywhere else, with Primary markets in Europe, S. Africa, Australia and the Phillipines.

ie NAFTA = North America , BUX = Rest of World

China and India are separate markets with their own production.

BUX Wrangler sales represent about 10% of all production which is significantly lower than all the models people in those regions are comparing it to. It’s a tough situation where they don’t have local production and they can sell all they can make domestically without having to pay a large sum to ship units overseas.
Unfortunately for people ā€˜elsewhere’ Most BUX production is boutique and treated as such, where its roll is less about making money for that limited chunk of production vs promoting the brand and supporting marketing efforts of other Jeep/FCA vehicles with a larger presence in those markets.
