My 2006 Dodge Durango had this problem. Started around 20,000 miles. Dodge finally admitted to an issue and replaced the gas tank with a new one and gave a lifetime warranty with it. Truck has 275,000 miles now and never happens. When this was happening, it was very frustrating! If this happens to my Gladiator when I get it, I'll cry!
My 2013 2dr. JK had this issue as well.
So as noted it's a long standing problem. ? :giggle:

Hey Kate. I took it to a dealer here in Cumming, GA and he explained he needed me to drop it off for several days. Never offered a loaner as it is new with 680 miles on it. I am assuming since it's under warranty, there would be a loaner.
Loaners are handled at the dealership level and based on availability. Generally they are not offered during the diagostic portion of a visit, but you can certainly inquire as to what is available. If they don't have any to provide, you might go the rental route. If you'd like to discuss that option further, call Jeep Cares at 877-426-5337 and they can talk to you about the parameters.

Kate could you please explain this statement on the Jeep Wave website? I don’t see where it says based on availability as you stated, I even included the fine print.

There is zero reason that anyone who spends $40k plus on a brand new vehicle should then have to purchase a rental out of pocket to have their new vehicle fixed due to a factory or design flaw that is in no way caused by the customer.

Subject of loaners and rentals has been like a beaten dead horse in other threads here. You are not going to be able to internet lawyer this to your satisfaction to force anybody's hand.

Jeepcares also will not get in the weeds with you on this. They just state their canned responses, not explain them past the surface details.

I think this issue has to do as much with the wide variation in speed/volume of gas delivered from pump to pump, as well as the fact that the fill tube is a rather small diameter running to the opposite side of the truck under the bed to enter the tank.

Have found that doing the paper shop towel trick , and only running the trigger of the pump at the next to highest detent rather than full blast seems to cure the problem.

I really don't lose any sleep over it, or feel the need to bellyache to the dealer.
Not sure the shop towel wrapped around the nozzle would help in my case; the gas is spitting out of the breather hole to the left of the full tube - it might actually make it worse. I agree with you, not the end of the world, just annoying. If I knew I would have this issue going in, I would have still bought it.

I haven’t been in all the threads and didn’t know about the horse beating. I also didn’t expect any significant changes but rather I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy/false advertising whatever you want to call it. I am not threatening lawyers or anything like that, but I do know jeep monitors these threads, if they start loosing market share to the Bronco maybe they might care begin to care. Think of it as my way of completing a satisfaction survey I wasn’t asked to take. ?

My dealer is replacing the fuel filler neck in regards to this problem. She had to order parts and will give me a loner while the work is being performed. I will follow up here once the work is completed.

Why run 91 at all?
Octane has nothing to do with flow into the tank. Must be different nozzles. Amazing the placebo effect octane has on people. Like a unicorn drug lol. What a hoot. Octane solves covid, too.
Next folks will claim less drag and 50 more hp and cleaner valves.

Mine only does it at certain gas stations. I've also noticed that at those gas stations, the pump stops at 17ish (when i have 30 miles left, so give or take 2-3 gallons) but I can slow pump in 2-3 gallons more. Must be how they generate (faster) fuel flow that messes with the fuel settling or something, not sure.

I bought my Gladiator a several months ago... already have over 7k miles on it - so lots of fill-ups already - and this just happened to me for the first time. I usually go to the same gas station and I always stop pumping when the pump shuts off automatically the first time. Maybe the auto-shutoff calibration is different on some pumps and I just got one that let it fill too full?

I've only had it happen one time since I bought mine in July of 2019, and that was at the station I always use. They have remodeled since then, and now all the pumps have the fume trapping nozzles. When possible, I set it on the slowest fill speed.

I have to avoid certain gas stations, in the south racetrac to be specific. Their flow is too quick and it will burp every time. I can also stuff 20 gallons in if I slow pump from 17-20, but if I go by when the pump cuts off, it's usually 17 on the dot. Doesn't make sense.

Happened to me on the first fill up after taking delivery. Was the same Shell station and pumps I have used regularly. I had seen this thread before so I went here purposely because they have the SLOWEST pumps I have ever used but it still burped. It has never happened since even after 6,400 miles and multiple fill ups at the same spot. I thought this was going to be a thing for me but it has turned out to be a non-issue so far.
