Is it just me, or is the cruise control horrible?

My vehicle seemed to improve torque once it hit a certain milage (15K in my case). Could be programmed in. Some of these newer engines may not be broken in yet.

Really NOT impressed with the cruise control. Especially in somewhat hilly environments, the speed varies +/- as much as 5mph from set point and the tranny does a lot of hunting.
Is this normal, or does my CC need dealer adjustment?
2020 Jeep Gladiator Overland. Mine has the standard cruise control package and i have no issue with it. No variation in speed at all - even in hills and on descent the cruise will slow the vehicle to maintain speed. 85k miles in and this truck is a pleasure to drive.
My wife has the 2021 Sahara with the ACC adaptive cruise. My only issue with the ACC has nothing to do with her vehicle, it's the drivers that race around you and then slow down, causing the ACC to slow you down as well. Her last vehicle was an Acadia Denali and the cruise was horrible. +/- 5mph and even more on hills and then racing to get back up to speed.

I pulled a speed boat up hills and the cruise holds steady.
Are you just finding this out, or did you think it would change?

We have a JTHA ( w/ ACC ) and a JTM ( standard CC ), in mid mo. I’m not super happy with the CC on either, and suspect that it works better for those with lighter tires ( less rolling resistance ) and the 4.10 gears. From the factory, the JTM will catch more air, and has almost 20lbs more per corner, which is like the equivalent of hauling 400+ lbs of cargo in the JTHA.

on the good side, and to my surprise, the gladiator is the first CC that I’ve ever had, that can get better gas mileage than I would. I think the main difference honestly, is the ability to run more efficiently downhill, where I might take the opportunity to gain a few extra mph’s.

It’s not without it’s faults but the CC is much better on my ‘23 Gladiator than ‘15 Tacoma.

I have never used the standard CC. I use ACC regularly. It holds the speed well, and keeps it within 1mph of what is set. It goes up and down hills and shifts as needed with no issues. The ACC is a bit aggressive when bringing it back up to speed, especially if there's a large gap between actual and set speed. Sometimes, it seems to wait a little longer than it should to start applying the brakes, but it hasn't failed me in over five years and two trucks.

Just you. mine, 2023 and 2020 rock I-95 and I use it much more than just a static steady speed.

YEP, it sucks on anything other than flat land! Applies/burns the brakes on the downhill side if you don't watch it close too.
Do you have an active safety package?
My 2020 JT Sport S has basic plain Jane cruise control and has never applied brakes. It will downshift to try and maintain speed, but not once on any of the steep Idaho, Wyoming, or Utah roads I've been driving since 2021 has it ever applied brakes.
Hell, adjusting the cruise control with the +/- controls is my favorite gradual acceleration of any vehicle I've had

My 2021 Mojave cruise control works great above 40 mph. Around 35 mph it seems to get confused and we have a lot of small towns where the speed limit goes from 65 to 35 here.

Truth. My Subaru was 5MPH if you went up or down. Sometimes super annoying because the ACC would hit the breaks more than required to slow itself down if you hit the button one too many times.

23 JTRD, cruise is right on. Only has 5600 miles though. I vary the speed settings on the steering control to match traffic flow.

I have the Adaptive Cruise Control and could not be more pleased. But I only use in of relatively flat roads, or going down hill to keep the speed down. But on any hills I just feather the gas pedal just enough to help maintain speed without the trans jumping down more than one gear, that ruins the mileage. But on the highway, especially in traffic the system works great, until you have some idiot cutting in front of you because the system maintains a minimum distance of over a car length. When that happens oh boy the brakes come on hard! But under normal conditions it will safety bring you to a stop, then after a couple seconds if the traffic doesn’t move it shuts off. But all you need is to use the gas pedal to get up to 25, then hit resume and it takes over again. But like I said only on flat roads because the gas pedal is too aggressive.
