Seriously, I haven't thought much about it so I don't know if there's one in my truck or not. I'm wondering if it's a good thing or a bad thing. No flaming please. I'm serious. What's the deal?

I can leave my smartphone at home when I drive, I can turn it off and keep it in my pocket, same for airplane mode.
turning the phone off doesnt turn off the internal tracker....how you think the cops can track phones, theres a signal that comes out of the phone whether you opt out of location or not...

We literally gave them a bug we carry with us at all times, tells them all of our habits, likes, wants, diet and even kinks. It's the best worst thing to ever happen.

I was reading the Wrangler Forum and the following attachment was found under the dash. it appears to be a dealer installed GPS tracker. I would suggest we all look under the dash and see if you too are being tracked. Although this appeared to have occurred in Colorado; in California, it is a felony to install a tracker on a motor vehicle without the registered owners consent, and once a vehicle is purchased, the dealer no longer has any legal authority to place a tracker on it. Quite frankly, it pisses me off that a dealer would hide such a device on any motor vehicle. My investigative firm has such devices and occasionally, we use them for LEGAL purposes only and not to spy on the activities of a private party. I ran the FCC info and this is: FCC ID Application Date Product Purpose Application Type; 2ASKH-AQA01 2021-03-02: Battery Operated LTE Cellular GPS Tracker Original Equipment: 2ASKHAQG01 2021-02-08: Arrow-VI Original Equipment: 2ASKHDL01 2020-07-20: Battery Operated LTE Cellular GPS Tracker Original Equipment: 2ASKHBT01 2020-07-14: DoorSense Original Equipment: 2ASKHALT01

If you are worried about being tracked, buy a late ‘90s or early 2000s Jeep and turn off your cell phone. As pointed here out by multiple posters, there are multiple ways you are being tracked through modern Jeeps.

Yes, very true. I keep my key fobs in faraday bags also. The only drawback to the faraday bag for the fob is locking inside the Jeep, if the fob is in the bag, since it cannot recognize that the fob is local. But, with the Jeep app (which some here use as I do) you can unlock the doors if an accidental lock in occurs. I have no trouble with the tracking aspects of the modern Jeeps as there is nothing we can do about it. If I really don’t want to he tracked for whatever reason I would just drive my 1996 2500 Ram or 2004 Grand Cherokee.

Every time there's a thread about tracking devices some idiot has to show up and say "Uh. well, akshually your cell phone.."

WE KNOW!

I can turn a phone off, I can leave it at home, I can install VPNs and blocking software that prevents apps from reporting to 3rd parties (it's integrated into the DuckDuckGo browser - reading that status report is eye-opening). I can ditch the smart phone for a flip phone or a burner or stick it in a faraday bag. And you're assuming people are okay being tracked by their phone, which most of us aren't! Whether the phone is tracking you is completely irrelevant to the facts of a completely different company tracking you with a planted GPS unit.

The next time someone draws a line and says "no further" and you're tempted to pipe up with "well, akshually..." consider first taking that comment or thought, forming it into a nice suppository-shaped object and cramming it somewhere no one has to hear it. No one wants to hear apologists trying to normalize corporate spying - it's not okay for phones, and it's not okay for cars. Since this isn't a forum about phone privacy, cram it.

In 2027 all the cars will be able to tune stuff on and off remote. Perhaps even limit travel.

Alrighty then, let me get the Stellantis CEO on the horn and see if we can fix this whole lack of privacy thing. If you have any solutions then post them, otherwise you can keep your nasty comments to yourself….sweetums. Blocked.

Yup, just like a dozen other built in features on the new Jeeps. Like I said, if I’m worried about being tracked for any reason I will drive one of my older vehicles. Actually my new Jeep that is tied to the Jeep app sits most of the time anyway; but I’m sure someone will say something “profound” like ‘now they know where you live’. Yup.
