I had ordered wheels and tires and lift while waiting for my JTR to come in. No regrets at all going straight to 37s. Probably saved myself some money that way. Possible regret is getting a bed rack that I used for maybe 6-8 months. That was $1400 down the drain, well, $1000 since I sold it for $400. I should have gotten a canopy, but the wait at the time was too long. Biggest regret was dumping the OEM tires for so cheap. Wildpeak MT with rubicon wheels for $900. Only had a couple hundred miles maybe. Should have kept the tires for my trailer or 4runner. But alas the wife wanted them out. Really though, it's been fun modding, so no real regret. It's part the journey.

Sway bar disconnects if it didn't come with them.

Rubicon Gas Model

We just put an Alu cab canopy and rtt on it for the first year of use. I’m glad we did not make bigger changes until having used it in a lot situations. It went many very cool places stock.

Would repeat:
- Rubicon model for the locking difs and sway bar. Smart driving and those devices can overcome some of the shortfalls of a long and low truck stock.
- high capacity battery for the fridge freezer
- simple 12v power added to bed
- Arb stubby bumper
- Harbor freight winch
- Alucab canopy and hard shell rtt

Maybe change
- possibly spend more money to go from 35” tires and AEV dual sport lift on it now to 37” tires, Clayton lift with adjustable shocks, and the diesel engine to keep fuel range after the mods. Those changes though would have more than doubled what I spent on the AEV, 35” tires, and gas engine. So for the money, I love what we have.

So, I'm new to Jeeps as a whole. Back when i couldn't afford anything I just wheeled old used Toyotas and built em out of FB marketplace second hand parts. Now I got a brand new jeep. Its a blast to wheel and is mind blowing what it can do stock. But as we all know, nothing is stock forever. With that as the theme, What was a mod you utterly regret doing and what was one that you will always do everytime you get a new rig?
your first mod's should always focus on drivability while saving for bigger better things...upgrade the headlights to LED so you can actually see, the RC one's are amazing. Then I'd go with a lift and tires. You don't need to go crazy and get a huge lift. MOPAR 2" seems to be a popular choice to fit bigger tires, my truck came with a 3.5" Rubicon Express kit (I have 37's) and although it wouldn't have been the exact kit I would have bought it still performs well and the truck looks great. Save up and get the best stuff you can afford. I was lucky and bought a slightly used truck with 9k on it, but it had TONS of things I could have lived without (LED Tail Lights, Hood, Custom Exhaust...) Honestly, the flashy stuff looks and sounds cool, and I catch myself glancing at my rig and smiling, but putting your hard earned money into the function of the vehicle is going to pay dividends when it comes to wheeling it....or you can just look cool driving through the mall....

I haven’t been able to get out on any group rides yet, I do plan to use it eventually if I ever get more free time.
We keep a radio on scan, whether we are in a group or solo. That way we know what might be going on around us. And it is a great way to meet people.

regrets
AluCab canopy camper. It was great for two years, but wish I had bought a pull behind instead.
Geolander 35s. Great tire, but should have started with 37s like my wife told me to. Ten times.
Falcon steering stabilizer. It is fine, I just wish I had bought the Fox. It will get replaced when it fails.
JKS 3” lift. Should have gone with a Rock Krawler.

undecided after three years.
Genesis dual battery.

edit: I keep thinking of more things. Ha.

I put in a 50W 2m/70cm radio with a proper Larsen antenna, and always have it scanning while offroading including the GMRS/FRS freqs. I'm frequently hearing groups chatting amongst themselves on GMRS, and have had interesting simplex contacts on the VHF calling freq from over 100 miles away. 100 miles isn't typical; all the stars need to align for that. But there can be an easy 10-25 mile bubble around you that you're hearing.

Limit yourself to 5W handhelds or 15W mobile rigs or stubby ghost antennas, and that collapses down to 2-5 miles. That's just fine for talking with your group, but you will be missing out on a lot of other interesting stuff going on around you. I don't usually do group rides so I've found the extra reach of the 50W to be worthwhile. No ragrets

I regret the K&N drop in filter. I can see where dust is getting by and through it, and there's trace evidence in the post-filter intake tube.

will forever now always do:
- Exoshield windshield film (everytime a rock hits my heart skips a beat and then i realize no crack so i'm happy)
- weather tech mudflaps
- full paint protection film on all four fenders instead of the dumb partial piece only on the back ones from the factory

undecided:
- aux switches. they weren't on mine when i bought it but i had them installed and 6 months later i still haven't gotten around to wiring up anything to them

My "required list"... other goodies were vanity or creature comforts. My Willys is a daily driver for work. I left the suspension alone but did move up to the 285/70/17 Toyo Open Road AT 3 10 ply. That was a world of difference in ride and handling. here is the rest:
Undercover Swing Case driver side storage
Undercover Swing Case passenger side storage unit
Bulletpoint driver and passenger phone holder
Mopar hard bed cover
NFAB side rail steps
Front door windows and windshield ceramic Tint (major requirement in Texas)
2 Heiss 14,400 lumen work lights (needed for work)
Rugged Ridge entry door kick panel guards
Weather Tech tailgate protector, mud flaps, floor mats
Dead Pedal

Its cool seeing gladiators used solely for work. imo if a truck is the sum of its parts, the gladitor is one of the best midsize utility trucks money can buy.

Don’t have any mods that I regret.

I have the following so far and am totally happy with - more to come:
Tazer - stays plugged in because I like the live features
HikeIt throttle controller - noticeable difference in taking off from a stop
OEM rubber mats - replaced carpet and so much better
DV8 spare tire carrier in bed - mostly like it for the looks
RSE step sliders - getting painted to match truck
Sold hard top - installed factory soft top (live in Louisiana and so convenient when you hit a pop up rain shower on a cruise)
37” tires - installed at 6,500 miles. Very happy with looks and road performance / noise
Fat bobs garage leveling kit along with rubicon takeoffs - clears 37s fine and rides like stock (in my opinion)
Dead pedal

Not in order - Tazer, soft top, dead pedal, armorlite flooring, Mopar soft tonneau, winch, tereflex 1.5 and rancho adjustable front shocks, Overland steps, pedal monster, bed side molle panel.

Not needed as much as originally thought - bed side rails similar to the ones on a Rubicon. They catch too much debris.
