Overland edition payload

Total 4x4 new guy question (truthfully should have researched prior), but why is the Overland edition payload so much less than all of the Rubicon or any of the other editions? Secondly, can this be increased through different suspensions? Take it easy on me I know basics about cars but trying to learn! Lol

Payload is determined by the factory, based upon the build options, and printed on the door sticker. There is nothing that can be done to legally change that number. You can make changes, like installing Max Tow springs and shocks, or aluminum bumpers, but if a legal situation arises, they go by the door sticker and not the updated capabilities.

The Overland is one of the 'Luxury' models. Fully equipped, with all the options, gives it the lowest payload of any of the trim variants.

When I researched this and built all these models with the same options this is what I found. The Overland is only 100 pounds less than the Willys but is 200 pounds more than the Rubicon

I wonder if they changed something in the two model years to up it a whole 243 pounds or maybe it's because the ones I built are a diesel? Not sure if yours is a gasser or not Bill?
I ordered a Overland diesel April 21st and the dealer called someone and they assured me the payload would be 1275 pounds...I guess time will tell for mine

Diesel does affect the payload.

I figured the payload would be less in the diesel because the diesel engine weighs like 400 more lbs than the gas.

Typically the diesel engine is 400 lbs more than the gasser, and the chassis is uprated by 200 lbs. The other 200 lbs comes out of payload.

I think they got the numbers messed up, because the Rubicon is supposed to be able to tow 6,500 and the overland 6,000 because of the softer suspension

If that’s the case I’m gonna have a serious case of the red ass when my Overland gets here after waiting 12-15 weeks or more to get it. Ordered 4/21 after a lot of talk with the sales rep and store manager regarding the towing/payload numbers and they supposedly called someone that confirmed what the website was showing ?‍

To get maximum towing and payload capacity, it has to be ordered with the Factory Tow Package and the Automatic transmission.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but it's right in the manual. Page 207. The manual can tow 4,000 pounds and the Automatic can tow 4500 pounds. That's assuming you have a class IV hitch. If you have the Overland with the factory tow page, you can tow 6000 pounds.

You’re wrong the auto with tow package can tow 6,000 in the overland
