Personally, I think it makes sense. The gladiator is really only great when it’s being used off-road. It doesn’t handle well on the freeway or really entire day driving. It’s loud, noisy, the steering wanders, etc..

If you want a midsize truck and don’t plan on really taking it off road, there are way better options on the market.
On the other hand, how many Jeeps get used off road?

Since 99% of them don't, people seem to be buying them for other reasons.

I think it makes sense to have a model that is geared towards on road use.

Since this became the R.I.P. Overland trim thread I'll chime in. Wifey 'vette got her '21 Snazz a few months ago and really likes it, with our only compromise being the standard transfer case over the Selec-Trac. That upgrade might be in its future, but I really wanna get it bedlined before winter.

I drove it after her on the test-drive and it took all of 2 minutes to put my arm on the windowsill and just cruise it, we were sold on it more or less right away. We also didn't need the upgraded spec (or height) since it's her truck, and my Badlands can cover anything hardcore.

They're an interesting combo, with both being capable, utilitarian, and damn fun (in different ways). Enclosed 4dr vs. 4dr short bed, but both have removable roofs and doors. Her automatic vs. my manual. Solid axle vs. IFS. A real gauge cluster vs. the Bronco's meh display. I love them both, but the Jeep's color is just ridiculous. We hope to keep the Overland for a very long time.

I actually thought the Mojave would be a short time trim not the Overland, I was replacing my Suburban and going with the Overland, but was concerned about not having the 4.10 rears , and was not needing the really low geared double locker Rubicon, and then dealer told me Mojave was coming out, waited for a 2021 to get full time transfer case and been happy. I’ll never get the mileage a stock Overland will get or as good a ride. Life changes all the time I have wheeled the Mojave and it has turned out to be the right choice, gets much better gas mileage then the Suburban did…Jack
Jeep people ( their company engineers etc ) have said in several interviews the Mojave is what they wanted to launch with...not the Rubicon....but it wasn't ready.

Unless they've changed things, you get the smaller tires, the wheels I can't stand (no offense, Sport owners! Just my opinion), leather dash and handles and a few other odds and ends that when I ordered, were not available in the Sport level.
You couldn't even get a body color roof and fenders with a Sport.. At least the build site doesn't allow or even show body color roof and fenders. There's a huge negative there.
I can't add leather to the sport.

If you could equip a Sport like the Overland then it would be an Overland, not a sport.
Overland was perfect balance of price with all of the options we wanted and nothing we didn't want.

I just tried - can't get leather dash, leather seats, BODY COLOR roof and fender flares, none of that.

I should have waited and bought a 2023 since they are discontinuing the only one with the options my wife and I wanted.
What exactly is wrong with the overland you currently own?

Nothing, but after a few years with changing options and improvements, who knows.
My wife has always traded to get better and newer every 3 years. I've usually gone a lot longer. And thinking if there's ever an accident (and it's happened a couple of times) where a vehicle needs to be replaced - sad to know this one can't be replaced with a new one.
If it is totaled in a year - it can't be replaced.
We're in that situation with my wife's JLU - that color was made for something like 3 months. She's going to baby that thing like I've never seen as she knows it's one of a kind.

The Overland is just a Sport with leather and some of the items from the High Altitude catalog.

Dealers around me had a hard time in particular selling Overlands due to some of the reasons mentioned in this thread.

In early 2021. I got an Overland diesel because it was a great deal at the time. Compared options for options with the Rubi at the time, it was (includes taxes and interest) $7800 different. Since i do my own wrenching, that $7800 that I saved got me 5 37s tires, 5 AEV wheels, Mopar lift, F/R track bars, stabilizer, draglink, regeared, Rubi swaybar disconnect etc...

It's Jeep 101 to start off with a limited model range and then expand to keep the brand/product fresh in the marketplace.

The Wrangler of course is the model to look at for future Gladiator expansion. Just look at the 2023 and 2024 Wrangler models and note that there's going to be expansion of model choices...

Wrangler Models
2023:
Sport, Willys Sport, Sport S, Freedom, Willys, Sport Altitude, Rubicon, Sahara, High Tide, Sahara Altitude, High Altitude, Rubicon 392

2024: Sport, Sport S, Willys, Rubicon, Sahara, Rubicon X, Rubicon 392

You must have had a bad experience with one. Mine doesn't wander, quiet on the highway, great off-road...

Well I have wanted a Gladiator Overland for 2 years but I am not able to spring for one just yet.By the spring of 2024 I think I would be able to do it.Now that they decided to discontinue the Overland I am Sh-t out of luck so screw Jeep they just lost a customer and I think I won't be the only one.I guess I will go back to Chevy or GMC for my new pickup. The Overland was the perfect choice for people like me that do not want to go off roading but just like the look of the Gladiator.I`m sure people from Jeep monitor the Jeep forums so maybe if enough Overland lovers complain about its removal from the line up they might get the hint. Jeep, this was in my opinion a big mistake.
Update since I wrote above post. I found an Overland at a dealer 170 miles away that had everything I wanted except for two things:trailer hitch and brown leather seats. This one had black leather. My wife happened to walk into the room as I was looking at the Jeep. She asked what was I looking at and I said I was looking at an Overland that almost matched what I was looking for.I was staring at the computer screen and said"man I was so close if only I had not put my money in a CD for 13 months I think I could have had a good chance at getting this one.To my surprise she said why not get your money out of the CD and I will let you borrow the the remainder from me.At that moment I felt like a kid at Christmas that got every toy I had marked down in the Sears Christmas catalog Wish Book.Thank you honey.
Now for a question since I am a first time Jeep owner. The cloth straps that house the wiring and prevent the doors from opening too far, can I get longer straps so the front doors will open a little wider and if so what do I do about the wiring that is in the door?Does the wiring have a little extra wire to play with?Sorry for such a long post so I will end it now although I know I will have many more questions in the future. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Congrats on finding one. Are you planning on towing? If so, you don’t get the same towing capacity unless you get factory towing. The reason is because factory towing includes a larger alternator and more engine cooling. If you plan on towing, factory tow package would be a deal breaker for me.

As for the door wiring, it’s not that restrictive actually. You can get them further open by removing the door open latch. Super easy.

Edit: without factory towing, I believe you get a different rear camera without trailer hitch zoom. It sounds silly, but it’s awesome.

Overland was a great trim, nice truck! I knew I was going to lift , gears ,tires ext…
So the rubicon didn’t make much sense.

This is probably true for most people but man I really miss my gladiator. I had to sell my manual trans gladiator earlier this year bc we have a baby on the way and the wife wanted a new car and refused to learn to drive the manual. I'm currently back in my old f150 and miss the open air experience the gladiator offered even if it's smaller and slower and takes more steering input to stay straight. Maybe in a year or two there will be a 4xe or some kind of more power option and I can get back in one. If money and driveway space was no concern I'd probably have a 2 door jeep and a truck but the gladiator is my compromise and I think it's a pretty good one. I know going by sales though that most don't agree

How does this affect the High Altitude? If I understand it correctly, my 22 is an Overland then the HA package is added on.
The High Altitude trim (e.g. Overland + HA package) is gone for 2024. My '21 is a one-year-only color, so I'm actually kind of happy that I ended up with a unique trim and color.

Independent of trim, the other feature that I no longer see as an option is the Selec–Trac® Full Time 4WD System. I wonder if it is included by default in the higher trim levels now or no loner offered. This is a feature that I use 90% of the time that I drive the Gladiator (winter/weekend toy).

I’m off road all the time in my Overland. It’s done really well in all kinds of terrain including when I need to put it in 4 Low in situations that need it. I just have to be a little more mindful of the angle I approach certain things. The extra 1” in clearance would be nice but it’s also my daily driver. I love the compromise where I can still be off road a lot and use it as a daily driver.
