Hey Elise,
I've spent a lot of time in Texas and there is a reason there are so damn many Toyota trucks there. The Tundra and Tacoma TRD series trucks are made in San Antonio. Not near as many Jeeps as I expected to see.
That is a very good explanation. I didn’t know Toyota built stuff in Texas!

Playing catch-up here, last week was awesome! We went to Sand Dunes and skiing in Colorado. Highly recommend sand dunes for something different. I heard somewhere that sand boarding was more like surfing than skate/long boarding or snowboarding. It was fun figuring it out though :)

As mentioned earlier, drove over the Ouray/Silverton pass a few times. I was really impressed with how well the Maxxis Razr tires handled in the snow/ice. For mud tires they were way more solid than expected!

And despite being late in the season, Silverton had some nice snow. Scored a couple days with some great guides on the mountain and enjoyed the powder!

We spent a few days in Moab. It was a week before the Jeep Easter Safari, so things were starting to get crowded. To beat the crowds we stayed out of town and did some of the less “popular” trails. Our favorites were the Boxcar Loop and Eye of the Whale to Tower Arch.

Both moderately difficult in places, beautiful drives, and we didn’t have to wait for people. Super doable trails, if you drive it smart. The lift and bigger tires certainly helped. I look forward to coming back and trying more trails next time.

Hit the Ozark TAT on our way back through, since we went to Texas heading west. Lots of fun river crossings and camping was $3 a night at both places we stopped!

Earned a few scratches from tight trails, and there is a lot of water on the trails near the river. There were a couple mud holes we probably would have gotten stuck in without the lockers, and I was playing it relatively safe since we are on the trail solo.

Good looking rig, but I’m not a big fan of the compressor outlet cut out. I like the location, but out here on the east coast/Atlantic Canada that cut out would turn to rust quickly. But that’s just me.

Thank you. I hear you on the rust risk. Anything mild steel very quickly turns into rust here in Virginia. So far the compressor hardware is holding up well, it’s mostly aluminum and stainless parts. I have had to use a little graphite on the bearing in the quick release connector though. I have a design in mind for the third version of the compressor mount and this one will include a flap to protect the gauge and outlet port. We’ll see, probably be a couple months before I get around to doing it :) Plenty of projects to keep my busy and I try to keep the number in progress at any one time low!

See about what the electric wrangler plug cowling costs, has an opening with a door on it in just about your exact location, just a plastic piece, Benny at almoparparts will look up the parts, just an idea! I have a Mojave with a different cowling or I think I would go that way. I've seen what you can do, you can be the pioneer to see how it goes!.....Jack

good idea :) I may try that as an intermediate step.

Just moved into a real house with a REAL garage this weekend. I’m pretty excited not to be working in a parking garage soon!

Truck handled the UHaul trailer like a champ.

Also, shoutout to Don @Discount Tire! Thank you for helping me get everything coordinated for the new wheels and tires. It was the most painless tire buying experience I've had so far :) Showed up, and the team already had everything mounted and balanced. I was in and out in 30 minutes <3

Guessing the pass was snowed in while you were at Sand Dunes? It's a fun ride with all of the creek crossings.

Since I have a similar path to you out west would you recommend the ozarks as a stop? Usually I just sprint out and back to have more time out there and the ozarks seem similar to what we have locally in the Appalachians.

Still liking the DB HD you sold me. Unfortunately side tracked with knee surgery so next major trip not until fall to see how it works with the tent.

Hey Clark! Sorry to hear about your knee surgery :/

Unfortunately the Medano Pass was closed :( I really wanted to do it, but that was the trade off of getting their early enough for a little skiing!

I would definitely recommend the Ozarks as a stop, at least for a day or two. We are discussing going back as a separate trip to explore a bit more. There were a lot of nice looking trails we drove by while following our pre-planned route, the campsites were really nice, and the park was just beautiful. The geography could be somewhat comparable to the Appalachians, but I felt like the water was way more impressive than what I'm used to seeing around here. Could be just me though.

Ok, so the tank mount has been running strong. Here is what I did…

That big empty space under the rear seat isn’t huge, but it looked like the perfect place for a long narrow tank. This is a 1 gallon aluminum tank with about a 4in profile. The straps are stainless, and all of the wiring and pipe is held safe with these great zip tie tabs I found from motobilt.

It lived up there for most of the winter, and you can see there are a couple areas that show a little rust on the drain cock and pressure sensor, but the tank and straps did pretty good.

Going to sand and paint this summer, but I dig this location better than my previous attempts :)
