I've used EDT regularly after the first pump for a while but towards the 2nd part of the year did fall off on using it everytime but still used it here and there. However, we shouldn't have to be relying on using additives to make sure that a fuel pump doesn't blow. Especially when we have spent as much for these diesels.
Agree but disagree also....my son has a little over 75k miles on his no isssues and use addictive religiously I have 42k on one of mine no issues and no issues with my other 2 diesels. The problem is the fuel these days is trash theres a few places that still has decent fuel but thats out of Jeep's hands on quality of fuel you put in your Jeep. Seems to me additive is good insurance have a bunch of guy's in the clubs we are in with diesels theres 16 total diesels only 1 has lost a pump and he has never used an additive in his Jl with 30k miles?

Have over 170,000+ miles on my F250 diesel without issues. Use hot shots maybe once a year, have bought diesel all over our great country. There’s no excuse for this kind of issue.

Just had my recall done on the 3rd. I asked for and got my old fuel pump. I took the solenoid out and inspected the screen on it for particles. It was clean. Nothing on it. Thinking on sending it out to get the pistons pinned. Then i will have a spare just incase the replacement pump goes out.
Do you have any more info on "get the pistons pinned" or further guidance on what to do to make it a reliable spare pump ? Thanks

I'm feeling pretty good about my decision to run Hot Shot's for the past 45k miles.
Yep, me too. I use the performance dose... of each... EDT and LX4 together in eachfill-up. I'm not sure about gelling and effects of cold weather yet, still researching. But in Alabama 20/30° weather is common, but typically doesn't stay below that for long... so I'm not sure if I need to add a third additive to the mix or not...

Off topic a little, but is everyone seeing a slight drop in fuel economy using "winter " diesel ?
Thanks

I had my fuel pump replaced thru the recall at 13,500 miles and am at 16,300 miles now. I've tried EDT and Diesel Kleen but have settled on AMSOIL injector clean + cetane boost since the fuel mileage seemed to improve the most between the three different ones. I also have Amsoil all in one diesel fuel treatment for winter use but it hasn't gotten cold enough here to need that yet.
I wish I had thought to ask if I could have my old pump that was replaced now that I've read here that someone did that (a great idea).
I'm not mechanically inclined but I wish I could figure out how to add a lift pump/fuel filter combo to my Jeep. That would solve having to buy expensive mopar filters and pay them to change them. I saw one set-up that had easy to change twist on filters and would insure that I wouldn't have to worry about the main mopar filter getting clogged and water accumulation. Here in the South where I live the humidity is terrible so water accumulation is a concern. I've seen lift pump/filter combo's available put nothing made specifically for the Jeep diesels. I wish someone would make or at least put together a system that would work good for us. I'd probably wait until my warranty was over unless the alternate lift pump could be used and taken off in a hurry without a trace in case of a warranty issue arising. Edited to add: If anyone is using an aftermarket lift pump and/or alternate filter system it would be good to get suggestions on what to use.
I live in the south (Alabama)... I checked for water in my filter around 7k... there was no water in mine. Not sure how big if a deal it is. I do feel, getting to the fuel filter is mush easier than getting to the oil filter.

I do not disagree with you. And in the same argument we shouldent have to keep DPF, SCR, and EGR systems in tact.

I was just asking for my own awareness/tracking. I add the snake oil to every tank for peace of mind and a fingers crossed attempt that it will make it a little longer before grenading.

Hopefully, Maybe, one day someone will make a cp3 conversion….

To add to the awesome fuel system- I have heard (have not had our pump changed) there is a change to the owners manual once the “updated” pump is installed to replace the fuel filters every oil change…. ?.
One day I might get board enough to figure out what it would take to put a spin on caterpillar 2 micron filter on and ditch this Mopar filter…..

Our TDI’s have caterpillar filters and they are awesome…. Larger, and better filtering media…. And just “easier” to change.

I am planning to install the cat filter on mine. I installed the filter/water separator on my 07 cummins since those didn't have the best stock filters and it worked good. It was similar to this

Just picked up my ecodiesel a week ago so have some other things planned first but here is the set up I am thinking about.

When i spoke with the service rep yesterday, she called the parts dept while writing up the service report and they told her that they had all the parts but were waiting for an egr gasket. 2 minutes later the part dept called back saying that they found one. Service rep told me that they will submit the request to do the recall and will call me later with an ETA. Well i got a call yesterday evening saying that they completed the recall and that my gladiator was ready to be picked up.

I picked it up today and on the report they only did the fuel pump, egr tube gasket, and fuel supply lines. Nothing about doing the full inspection and if any contamination was found in the system. Had to call the service manager and he said oh yeah they did the inspection and found no contamination. I asked for that in writing just in case anything happens later on. But surprised they didn't put it in the report liked i asked or that they even did the inspection.

Going to start using EDT religiously again and fingers crossed that the new pump is better and that there was actually no contamination in the system.

Should have asked for the old pump back. This way you can remove the solenoid and see if it has any particles on it.

When i stop by tomorrow to get the written report of the inspection and no contamination, i am going to ask for the pump. Don't know if they'll give it though.

How the hell did you get yours done that fast? I'm still waiting on the dealer to get to mine even into the recall stage of things. Granted it runs fine currently. But WTF really that was fast dude.

Same here. Still waiting for the pump since November.

Edit: Just got off the phone with my parts guy and he said there are 55 peoples on the list, and all they are waiting on is the gasket.

My view and response on this thing based on some of the posts on this thread…..

First, to the OP: It totally sucks that this has happened twice! What absolutely rotten luck! What a pita too to have to deal with the fuel system replacement a second time.

Based on some of the posts: The pump isn’t a Jeep product. It’s Bosch. This pump is put in lots of vehicles where it also fails. There have been at least 4 class action lawsuits, most not involving Stellantis. Someone mentioned the TDI (I’m assuming, you’re talking about the VW TDI). Depending on year, it also uses the CP4 and it fails there as well! This truck also uses the ZF transmission, so I’m not sure what that’s all about.

Where some anger is definitely warranted against Jeep, IMO, is their terrible comms, glacial timeline on making things right, and having to be forced via lawsuit and the regulator to address this. I’m hoping we will eventually get the full story on both the reason for the delay and the delta between the two pumps.

As for this pump. I challenge anyone to purchase a vehicle in The US or EU market that doesn’t use Bosch parts, but let’s also keep things in perspective. The pump has something like a 3-4% failure rate. Also, it fails because of a design flaw.

I’m not going to offer an opinion on using additives in general (I don’t use them) but their use doesn’t seem to prevent these failures nor does fuel lubricity cause the failure. Is the pump more sensitive to low fuel lubricity? Maybe. But the pump was designed to work in markets with low sulfur diesel so if this is indeed an issue, it’s still a design problem because it doesn’t work in the markets where it’s sold. It doesn’t meet its environmental parameters. It seems from most of the technicians and engineers who’ve weighed in on the changes to the CP4 from the CP3 agree, it’s a poor design that’s inherently more likely to fail because, among other things, the non-fixed pistons.

Finally, I think it’s a bad idea not to get this pump replaced. Even if folks intend to purchase an aftermarket pump, run the GDE tune, etc., they should get this recall cleared off of their VIN and get the new, improved pump.

@Rusty PW thanks for mentioning getting your old pump back. I’m going to ask for mine too when I get it replaced on the 22nd.

Damn dude. Sorry to hear that. Since mine went at 4581 miles I've been trouble free. 21 Ecodiesel. EDT every time I fill up. ? Dealer is lagging on getting parts. Even though he says I'm 4th on the list.
So far I’ve been okay on mine. Heading to 42k and second owner - first owner didn’t have a replacement from what I can see. I run Hot Shots EDT as well every fill up and ever 6 mo on the Diesel Extreme treatment.
My dealer told me they are only allowed to request 2 pumps every order max and over 40k need it replaced.
