I had this same issue when new. I think it takes a few days for the secondary battery to full charge and make the system available. Three months in an no more issues. Hopefully this is all it is for you and not some of the other reported issues on this thread.

I'll have to check that out. It's going into the dealer on Thursday.
I hope that's all it is. Nothing takes the shine off a new vehicle purchase such as an issue like this. I feel lucky and was a bit worried when it first happened to me. Especially after reading about the misfiring issue and other weird issues. Mine was built in Oct and I purchased it on May 1st. That's quite awhile to sit with minimal to no charging.

Happened to me on a road trip this past week .... It was right after checking the oil so I suspect it might have been the hood switches. It cleared at the first ignition cycle and hasn't returned.

I've seen where some are eliminating the small secondary battery with a dual battery kit. Granted this set up is more prime for those intending to run accessories, but having a full battery in place of the tiny secondary battery might not be all that bad of an idea if the stock battery is a weak link?

I had similar problems. Got this message and another about battery charging. Then the truck completely died. Got towed to dealer and they replaced main battery. A week later died agin, got towed and replaced the second battery. Think we are all good now - local dealer was great

So I had a similar situation this morning. Truck started up fine. Error on the EVIC said start/stop Not available. I continued to drive off my driveway and the truck just died on me. There was power to the vehicle but I couldn’t start or even shift out of gear. There was another error message giving me a 30 second countdown saying something like “starter protection” I waited the 30 seconds and still nothing.

I have Tazer mini installed and unplugged it. After re-installing the stock wire harness the Jeep started up fine with no error messages.

anyone else have an issue like this? After work today, I am hoping I can put the Tazer back in and do a reboot and see if that helps

How many miles do you have on your JT? How old is it? Have you previously had ESS error messages? Curious if this is an issue that you either have from the get go or if it can creep in later on too.

Finally got my issue resolved after two trips to the local dealership, but not by them. LOL.

They wanted to install a programmer and change my tire size. That's what they said was the problem.

But when I asked to see their read out, it already showed that my tire size and gear ratio were changed (and I knew that already, we reprogrammed it when they were installed.)

After picking it up the second time without any results, I finally did some of my own research.

Turns out that all I needed to do was disconnect both batteries (individually) and wait about thirty minutes for it to reset.

After I hooked my battery back up everything seems to work with no error messages and no CELs.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.

I had this issue on my Gladiator Rubicon I just bought. Seems like it had been sitting in the dealer lot for a while and the small battery might have been low or close to dead. I had test driven it and had no error. The day I picked it up I had the ESS warning light and the message saying "Service Start Stop System". Dealer said to give it a few days. I gave it one day and decided to start troubleshooting myself.
I first charged the batteries with nothing unhooked. Warning light and message still there. Next I disconnected the negative battery terminal and separated the lead for the smaller battery. I verified that they were both charged fully(they weren't initially). Left the batteries separated and unhooked for about an hour. Hooked everything back up and the light and message are gone. It's been over a month and 1000km later still no message. ESS works as it did on my JLUR.

This error was fixed for me by straightening the pins

I fixed mine last Friday. They replaced the main battery and charged the secondary battery for a couple of hours. They mentioned my lights on my light bar and stated they would only fix this issue this one time. They really didn't care they were dealer installed and already on my truck when I purchased it. But for now it is fixed.
