Has anyone had issues with the automatic transmission locking up? I was driving and went to back into a parking spot and the transmission locked up and wouldn’t go into reverse and wouldn’t go into any gear. Had to pull the release handle and have it towed to dealer. Dealer said it would be a couple of days before they could even look at it.
Additionally dealer has no loaner vehicles, for warranty is Jeep supposed to provide a loaner vehicle? @JeepCares

Did you by chance have a door open or belt off? Or have you recently taken off your doors and put them back on? Could be a bent pin in the connector and the parking safety logic of the truck?

That sucks to hear. What is the MILAGE and what model do you have?

Do some homework now that you’re waiting to hear something. Call your parts department with your VIN # and see where a transmission is. Is one available, is it in production, how long of a wait to get one? Go in and see your service manager and ask if they would put in an order to get one shipped to save time in waiting.

If your dealership says there’s no ETA for one and your on a waiting list, that may not be true. Another member here was told earlier this month he had to wait till November to get his transmission and he was pissed. I placed a call for him to my parts Department and within 30 seconds on the computer a transmission was found sitting at a dealership not assigned to anyone so deal was made to ship it to that guy’s dealership and I believe he is driving again already.

But let’s hope it’s a simple fix.

The doors haven’t been removed recently and I literally was driving for 30 min with no issues and went to park after the drive and just shifting from drive to reverse it locked up. Tried disconnecting batteries and let sit for 30 min to see if it was a computer issue. No luck.

Wow that’s very helpful tip. I’ll be doing that now.

So back earlier this month when a transmission was located at that dealership in Ontario, the parts guy, looking on the computer told me 312 transmissions in production and 74 were slotted for Canada. If a dealership puts in an order for one it usually takes one week to get it shipped, providing no parts are held up. But like I said, I hope this is a simple fix, loose wire and software upgrade….

No, there is no entitlement to a loaner. If you have an extended warranty service contract, there may be language for rental car reimbursement. Jeep Wave language for a loaner is only for same day drop off service and not multiple day in show work.

As for the loaner issue, I’ve experienced both sides of the coin.

Tuttle Click in Irvine has been horrible to deal with in terms of service. They like to keep the truck “in que” for days before even having a tech look at it. Sometimes they have put me in an Enterprise rental after much tantrum throwing on my part but mostly they refused. I won’t take any business to them again because they have a “tough luck buddy” attitude. Even if I try to pre schedule a warranty issue, they won’t give me a loaner.

On the other side of the coin, Glen Thomas in Signal Hill is amazing. They are very busy but I don’t have to make an appointment. I simply drive up and they put me in an Enterprise rentalalways been ready 2-5 days later.

The service rep at Glen Thomas told me Stellanis pays for the rental on any warranty issue. 5 days are covered without question and they just need to submit a request for extended repairs.

I love my truck, but it’s in the shop more than our Land Rover and that’s really saying something. Dealers need to help on this front, much the way Land Rover does.

I wish Tuttle Click wasn’t so infuriating because they are so close to my house and my purchase experience through their internet sales manager was very good. But alas, they are dead to me.

For what its worth... when I had my 2020 in for a warranty issue, I was told by the dealer that Jeep would reimburse the dealer for 5 days for the rental they gave me. (Jeep cares confirmed this as I had an open case and spoke with them.) I did not pay a dime.

Same thing happened to me. I bought my Jeep used from the dealer here and it needed a transmission. Pretty annoyed they sold it to me like this but I should have known better to buy something that had been sitting on the lot for months. Worked great on the test drive but immediately started not going into reverse, then wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th, and then stranded me. I've been waiting about a month but there is suppose to be a transmission coming in a little over a week. Luckily I have a daily driver and didn't need a loaner. I doubt they would have loaned me a vehicle for over a month anyways.

Update: Dealer called and said that at first look they think its the Shifter Module or a valve body inside the transmission. They stated it would be awhile due to staffing shortages and possible part issues. Fingers crossed it all goes smooth. Wanted to update in case some one else runs into the same issue. I have a 2020 Rubicon with 22,500 miles.

A couple of weeks ago my Gladiator with only 14k miles stopped moving, shifter lights flashing and on the main display, check engine light on. Would not go into reverse - neutral or drive. Got it towed to the dealer, when they got time to diagnose the issue they found burnt oil and pieces of metal, so a new transmission is on order with no eta.
no warning signs / noises etc before this happened, and never did any towing.

@JeepCares will need your help on this
