Hey guys.

I was given a 48” hi lift jack as a gift. Of course I was excited to receive it, but Now I can’t figure out where I could use it. I have N-fab tube steps that I will be bolting on soon and OEM bumpers on my Sport S. I don’t think the tube steps are meant for jacking, but I don’t know. I know about the makeshift winching you can do which is nice, but I don’t see any real contact points for actually jacking. Any thoughts? Thanks all. Merry Christmas and happy new year.

I think the point is, when you're out somewhere and stuck, you would put the jack under anything you could to get yourself out.....

Definitely learn about it before you are in the field. They are super awesome tools and you can use them from any solid jack point. There are dumb moves you can do with it though, get past those and you’ll be golden.

Without aftermarket bumpers and frame mounted rails, you can use the hitch point for straight jacking, or to move the back end of the truck to either side. The tow hooks and winch tray are also legitimate jacking points if you are careful to position it so it doesn’t slip. There are also attachments for lifting tires (as troutfishing said) to put boards or rocks under them, but I’ve never found a scenario where it actually made sense to get that out instead of backing up, so that accessory never leaves my garage anymore.

Re-winching: I’ve been in scenarios where I tried it a couple times and find it kinda useless. By the time you get the strap under full tension you’ve used up half the length, and then it’s too much weight for me (I’m on the strong side for a woman, but definitely still out classed by most guys) to move the truck at any incline without putting myself in the danger zone (handle whacking you). Could be easier for someone with more muscles and weight than myself, but something to consider.

Hi lift jacks can be great, had one for years, but didn’t use it enough lately, and decided on a Safe Jack bottle jack kit when I got the Mojave, takes up less room , and perhaps a little bit less weight, and much more difficult to hurt yourself with it! Had a hi lift hard case for it, sold it to a member here for short money……Jack

Never met ya, almost did a few weeks ago at the trail get together in Pa., but I think we all here know there is no guy that outclasses you! You might not be as strong but you have some talent and smarts….
…just saying, Jack

Thanks for the input everyone. Sounds like I have some options that I did not know about before.

They’re fashion statements mostly. Sell it.

There are always better and safer alternatives.

My father gave me one decades ago, and it was old when he gave it to me. I'm not absolutely sure but I think it was used on The Great Pyramid of Giza 5000 years ago, at least it looks like it was. I bought a rebuild kit and cleaned it up, carried around for quite a while, but about the last 5-10 years it's been in the corner of my shed gathering dust. Shame on me.

I watched a YouTube video of a Colorado rescue and recovery guy use a soft shackle around the spokes of a wheel and the hi lift from there to help a person get out a stuck jeep.
