OMG, you really don't know me at all. Really?
Warped views?
You posted the video then gave a bit on how people should put the phone away - and that woman was on her phone.
Sorry, I'm one of the very few who believe that Chicago needs a bit of, well, help, perhaps, from some bigger forces........... and there's about 40 DAs who need to be removed from office.

I was only referencing @ShadowsPapa post about waiting for an ambulance, not cop response times.
Police response times are too often the fault of under-staffing, anti-police policies. Hard to blame the few officers who are left on staff trying to handle a location that has grown while their numbers have been cut.
The Iowa Highway Patrol district around Des Moines used to be over 120 troopers. They are down to about 23 now - for the same area with MORE highways and probably double the drivers. I don't blame police, I blame the anti-police policies. We need more, not fewer. And we need to spend the money for training. Here they want fancy government buildings and spending for art and things that do nothing to help our police (or first responders and fire fighters) while they defund the police. WRONG.
The waiting for an ambulance - that 45 minutes was stupid - especially when I'm barely 30 minutes away from Des Moines itself, and Pleasant Hill responded - I'm about 20 minutes from them. My wife could drive the speed limit and get from here to PH in 20 minutes.
We're spending money in the wrong places.

I honestly think it’s bigger than than anti-cop stuff. Granted, I would absolutely not want to be a cop in today’s day and age, I never wanted to be a cop anyways tho. I’ve got 25 years in from state fire agency to private paramedic ambulance medic to city fire dept where I am now and across the board it is hard to get meat in the seat. Even for us “good guys” on big red. I remember when I first got into emergency services there would be 5k applicatants for 10 spots. Now I know guys that failed the paramedic evaluation for one of the highest paid fire dept in CA who got called back to try again. Blue collar jobs just don’t have the draw like they used to and it’s compounded by more folks retiring than were able to hire. At least that’s my experience in CA. It’s a pretty shallow pool we fish from out here.

Eeee Nufff! Right on again, Rusty PW...
If this thread keeps going in this direction. I fear this will come out. You get warning, then a time out to go sit in the corner, then 3 strikes and you're out of here for good.

Some people like to think they are some tactical ninja with a plan in public. Sometimes some rando out of left field is just going to get the jump on you regardless how much you planned.

100% disagree with you on this one. Unless you know the person, everyone should be suspicious, especially nowadays. With random women (and men) being punched in the face, multiple stabbings and shootings that is going around, you can either ignore all of it or you can simply do the right thing and be aware of your surroundings.

If you or anyone else think this country is safe, than obviously you are either brain washed, have never experienced violent crime first-hand, or reside in a safe place where crime is minimal (basically not the hood) Truth is, violent crime is high and there is no denying it, but if you are weak-minded and believe the propaganda that is pushed that "crime is low" then I guess you will deny it

You can close your eyes all you want, but violent crime exists. Try and step out from your gated community and well-manicured lawns and take a stroll through the hood, I can 100% guarantee you will be aware of your surroundings.
Free your mind bro, the evening news got to you.

This is why being aware of your surrounding is extremely important.👇

This is also why I continually remind my family to notice everyone around you, stay off your phones and never show weakness in public spaces.
Being AWARE of your surroundings is not enough. You need to process your surroundings and make safe & smart decisions to put yourself into a ‘safer position’ to defend yourself.

The thought of getting on any subway, makes me cringe……. Personally? I’d avoid it completely and find another safer method of transport. If you can’t avoid the subway….**In this situation…. I’d walk to the back of the subway car and sit in a last seat with nobody behind you OR I’d stand in the corner.

You should constantly be ‘thinking’ and ‘deciding’ how to position yourself to prevent or avoid unsafe conditions, avoid potential threats (whatever that looks like) And/or be in a better position to defend yourself. Looking for exits or ways to remove yourself from any situations that may escalate.

So - what should she have done that would have protected her?
#1) Find a safer method of transportation.

If that’s not possible….
#1) Sit in the very last seat of the subway car with nobody behind you.
Or…. Stand in the corner looking forward.

You can’t protect yourself if you can’t see it coming.

Like the majoirty of the population - people don’t have ‘self defense’ on their minds and/or are too pre-occupied to think about it. And even more so now-a-days with people glued to their phones.

What's the purpose of law and order, except to create a safe place.
