Bringing life back to this one.

Curious if anyone has put eyes on or extended lines for transfer and trans breathers. Seems like no longer are the fancy ARB breathers necessary due to a gore-tex type material. But if I read every thread here correctly it sounds like there's still a level of 'unknown' in terms of breather locations for trans and transfer....

I found a breather under my engine cover the other day. Didn't have time to track it down.

Looks like I missed a couple pages. Thank you.

Just a quick update on the breather project...

I picked up about 20ft of 5/16" fuel line, and some 3/8 vacuum hose connectors from Auto Zone, and extended my breathers. I ran the T case breather back to the rear axle (too much going on with the trans, etc., to run it forward toward the engine bay), and used a T-connector to junction it with the rear diff breather... then ran one fuel line hose from the T-connector back up behind the passenger trail light.

Then I took a short piece of hose left over to extend the front diff breather up higher, and back by the firewall on the driver side.

Pretty easy and inexpensive way to get some extra peace of mind if things get deeper than expected.
I'm curious why the two hose sizes? And is it a good idea to join the t-case and axle together? Seems the hose size wouldn't allow for enough air volume to enter/escape.

Also curious if anyone has experienced electrical system failures due to deep water (say.....just enough to go over your wheels). I have seen plenty of videos of folks doing such things, and nobody seems to have had any issues - or at least not discuss any issues.

There is no volume of air. You couldn't even feel the air move.
The air expansion is really slow and unless you hit water, the cooling even slower.

The electric connectors are sealed.

Glad they were ok but question - were they trying to outrun a storm and in a place they should not have been in, or was this a flash situation no one would have seen coming?
Don't know a lot about that area, the landscape and all, but it seems this isn't an unusual situation there? Probably scared out of their wits.

Love how the media calls anything that's not a typical 4 door family sedan and "SUV".
It goes back years and they act like "SUVs" have minds of their own like "SUV jumps curb, killing two"
"SUV loses control and strikes pole", "SUV strikes down woman in parking lot"
Yeah, those are real examples.
They are EVIL!

Would they have called my Chevy an SUV?

Looks to be out in the desert (San Bernardino/Mojave area) so this was likely flash flooding. Not uncommon in those parts or much of the desert (Arizona, Utah and New Mexico included) during monsoon seasons. That being said they can come in with little notice (less than two hours warning)

I definitely keep my eyes out for wild SUVs these days… ?

Thanks for the info - I was wondering if it wasn't the sort of area that gets flash floods because the name of the location - I've heard that before associated with spooky flooding. You just confirmed it. It Iowa, we get warnings waaay in advance, so it's a different situation. We know better and were warned. They likely were caught by surprise. Anyway, apparently all are ok, the truck was still upright, occupants cold and scared but otherwise hopefully ok.

Yes, do watch for those wild SUVs. I laugh every time I see on the news any report of "SUV plows into crowd" as if they charged the SUV with something but the driver was an innocent by-stander and had no choice but to go along with the evil plan.

Looks like they used the Sunrider to get from the cab to the bed, I think this is at least the 2nd time I’ve seen that. Could be a new selling feature ?

If this was a Bronco, would we be discussing the Ford fording depth?
Maybe Ford fording depth in a fjord? (naw, those are too deep even for a Jeep)

So which hose was the 5/16, and which was the 3/8? Was the 3/8 used to connect to the t-case, and run back to meet with the rear diff, and then use a 5/16 to run up to the tail light area? Also, if this is the case what T-connector did you use?

I used all 5/16 lines... The connectors were 3/8

Took my JLU through a foot deep puddle at speed. Water was forced up into the engine bay and flooded the power module. Everything worked for a month or two until the power module corroded enough to kill the engine. $1200 repair bill to replace the power module. Needless to say, I don't cross water at speed in my Gladiator but will be extending breather tubes as high as they can go... ?
