My dad has a Mini-14. I'm not the biggest fan, I think I'd rather have another AR-platform rifle.

Not for nothing, CMP is supposed to be releasing fun switch removed M14s later this year. Hopefully they're not too stratospherically priced. @Blade1668 how badly did they bang you for the M1?

BTT:

I didn't do anything to my Jeep today but drive it and run it through the car wash to get the bird shit off.
The Mini-14 has a few advantages over the AR platform, in my opinion. Not a big scary black goon, operating system is way more reliable, as far as beef goes. This is for most people. If you know how to break an AR all the way down to the extractor springs for cleaning and service you should be ok. Those springs can break under heavy use if not maintained. The ears on the bolt tend to crack under the same conditions.

On Topic: ran down to Lowe’s to pick up some block off plates for my breaker panel. Been meaning to do that for a couple months to fill all the holes up I left from reorganizimation. Ran over a trees curb thing and avoided the mobile sign post to park because I was giving my off-road prowess a test in the parking lot. 😁

Hey @Jaxmax any luck fishing? And what holders are those? I need a couple new ones.

I was on Assateague Tuesday morning and the surf was rough with a strong southerly wind that exfoliated me whether I wanted to or not. We should try to meet up some time!

Inspected the dreaded power steering connector per the recall notice, it looks fine so visiting the dealer can wait until I have time, maybe in the fall. Then on the way back from the airport to work on my plane I took the scenic route through the state forest and got a bit dirty.

But just past these puddles I spotted the unmistakable orange of chanterelle mushrooms. Not a lot, but just enough for the mushroom omelette I foresee for tomorrow's breakfast. :)

I use plain white ones with screw off lids for dog food makes storage easier. Tool buckets, fishing bucket, ect ect. Oh that bucket collection is a thing too. Danged if the company that makes the 6-7 gallon sized ones isn't proud of them. They make great seats to set n work on stuff.

Oh what a drift on grills n stoves. Grill wise I currently have a Webber Q grill and do occasionally cook bacon on it also. Bacon there or oven less messy.
Several Coleman single burners along with 2 and 3 burner the latter was my father's. My single burner multi fuel has seen more JP-4 than anything else with over a year in Iraq in early years. . . Gotta use that fuel from the weekly drain fuel filter for something. Fresh coffee and fried spam was a change from a MRE for all meals.
Oh well back to the thread original thing. Took a drive to CMP range in Talladega, came home with a 1917 and M1 in 308. Two guys there had snagged up the few 1903a3 they had. I went with the intentions of getting a new 1911a1.

Bad on the 1917 it was a drill rifle likely as it has been painted white and shellac soaked before that. Along with a very rough bore. The M1 is likely better looking than when it left Springfield Armoury in 1940's.
Damn I needed another 308 and 30:06

Took a relaxing drive out to Julian Pie Company today to restock on some fat pills. Original Apple pie, Dutch Apple pie, and a Strawberry Rhubarb in the freezer. Well 2 of the 3 went in the freezer. 1 is going in the oven because…….. yeah I’m not going to have Julian Apple pies in the house and not be tempted to eat one. Highly recommend if you ever get a chance to try one. Some of the best I’ve found.

Excellent place. Super nice drive through the hills too. I go in from hwy 79 in Temecula. Love that drive. Except for when they are doing roadwork.

Yep. Same route. I live out that way so that’s my way to get there too. Some kind of fire training going on on out there right now. Fire captains trucks all over the road. Stopped at the Res gas station out there too on the way back. $4.99/gallon. Best I’ve seen recently.

I love the M1's but don't really want to stock another ammo, and find them to be a tad heavy for me. So - eventually adding a Mini 14 to the collection for the approximate feel / style.
This one is 308 /7.62×51, the 1917 is likely a "only able to hit a barn if fired from inside it.

Love the M1A!! Very dependable rifle in any of the various forms out now.

Used to drill with the 1903A3. May have gotten smacked upside the head with the stock a time or 3 for being off kilter. I learned. Heavy and I never got to fire one but solid rifles too.
I've done several parades with 1903a3 and M1 when I was still A.D and other events. Several with a VFW and M1 in 1990s also. First time I had to clean one was then from blanks. Kinda was a bad thing being just the right hight and weight in several units for flag details and like. Hmmm might be why a seemed to get on s### lists in Army after turning down an assignment to the Old Guard in 1991. I didn't want all the spit shine and D&C side of being 11B. I just wanted to go to Ft. Campbell or any light infantry Div.

$1250.00 on it, new everything but receiver probably better fit n finish than it was when originally built. They come with a nice case better than what they had years back. My other one looks like a dog actually a field grade one from some years back in 30.06 it actually had a CMP replacement stock but I purchased a salvage one and cleaned it up some as it fit the rest of it better. FYI I was checking on the M-14 also... they currently don't have a timeline or pricing for them.
I'm also a AR platform really, actually years ago I stayed with the set calibers and ga only for that reason. 22LR, 9MM, 5.56, 308 (hunting) 12 ga. I had wanted a TC Encore for many years and only get one with 300 WM barrel 🙄 then a 30.06 barrel and 50 cal B.P. barrel. FYI to most don't get one in 300 W.M. unless you like to abuse yourself.

B.O.T. I unlocked and relocked doors in and out of it several times and put sunshade in windshield is all with JT. Suns out in FL.
