Still a garbage system. Any system that uses the conventional starter takes too long to fire the engine up. The E-Torque system and ones like it that use a starter/generator which runs way faster is far superior, but I'd still disable it every time. When I hit the accelerator, I expect to move, not for the engine to start. The tiny amount of fuel this saves is not worth the annoyance and harshness of the engine clunking on and off.

This is what I find so humorous - non-engine techs telling experienced MOPAR engine techs and other engine mechanics what's possible or not, what's real or not - refusing to believe what's been shown to be fact. Doesn't matter about the math done, or other logic. When you hate it, I guess you must find a reason to support that hate?

So far no one has explained how there HAS TO BE wear or other problems with it.
Noting was really "beefed up" - just made far more efficient.
Scotty Kilmer says gassers weren't designed for ess and ess is hard on bearings and the fuel savings are negligible. He says hybrid cars are much better suited for ess.

In case you don't know, Scotty Kilmer has almost 50 years experience as a mechanic and is an author on the subject.

HAHAHA - a comedian. Love it. That's the guy who says the Jeep ZF transmissions are made in Austria!
I appreciate the big laugh in the AM

Just don't even mention to @Hootbro that you mentioned Scotty. He'll be rather amused.

Kilmer is proof there's a really low intelligence factor to youtube and some will believe anything. He's a total idiot. I don't know how else to put it.

Funny stuff. I sincerely hope you were being sarcastic posting anything from that guy at all. I'd really hope you were well beyond taking him seriously.

I'll put myself up against him any day. (and have written magazine articles myself)

Kilmer's videos should be required to have a disclaimer:
Caution, use for entertainment purposes only. Any similarity between Scotty Kilmer and a real mechanic is only purely coincidental.

, so which way did you vote. I assumed negative , as it is not good on diesels?
Not being a Jerk but
I can't see you being a jerk......... just doesn't fit.

I voted positive - It absolutely saves us fuel - proven in real numbers, it's not caused us problems at all. It fits us fine. I'm a jack-rabbit start type of driver, much to the dismay of my wife. Not that I "NAIL IT!", spin the tires and leave everyone in a cloud of smoke and dust, but when it's time to go, I don't dilly-dally.
It doesn't slow my reaction time getting off the line. Maybe because I'm also a stop light watcher, always aware of 1,000 things around me, and am ready, foot lightening up on the brake for the countdown? It's what ADHD does to a person - I could easily fly a complex aircraft, I'd be aware of all gauges and buttons and switches at all times. The paperwork? Naw, boring, I'd get fired for not submitting flight plans or final paperwork. But fly that thing? Yeah, no problem. (I like my cars with all sorts of gauges and things to do while driving - but a stick doesn't work well for my towing and other needs)

I do not own a diesel, the diesel is a small sub-set of all Jeeps out there.
Consider this has been on every Jeep we've owned since our 2016 Grand Cherokee 3.6 - that's when ESS and the PUG came out. So I've had several Jeeps with it, all 3.6, all gas and no problems with ESS. We have proven it saves us fuel. Heck, you can sit at a stop light and watch the numbers change. It's very good for us.
Millions of the 3.6 engines out there, not sure of the numbers of the PUG/ESS since the 2016 model year but it's been in hundreds of thousands of Jeeps - again, the diesel of a very small part of the Jeep community. That's not a negative comment about it - just that in the grand scheme of things, they are a 'small minority' of owners.

So I voted with what we've owned several of, what I know, and what the majority of all Jeeps, Dodge and Chrysler vehicles out there are - gas, and 3.6

Hmmmm....I'm wondering if there is any correlation or common thread between people that lose their shit over auto-start/stop feature and people that lose their shit over ducks. From the outside it kind of seems like the same demographic. Neither is a hill worth dying on, but goddamn if they don't lose a lot of blood over both.

How does one "lose their shit" over ducking or ESS on an internet forum?

The hate over something as simple and harmless as little rubber duckies is quite amusing, too. Don't get that, either. Someone liking to have some fun, spread some fun or joy or indicating - hey, really like your Jeep/ride and wow - BOOM!!

I'm always annoyed and disappointed in myself when it does it and I realize I forgot to push the deactivate button.

LOL yeah some people take a kind harmless innocent gesture like having a small rubber duck set onto their exterior door handle as a compliment and a symbol of good faith and camaraderie as if the duck giver just murdered their children.

Not just on my JT, but on ANY vehicle I drive I am against them.

My opinion as asked.
