Not just on my JT, but on ANY vehicle I drive I am against them.

My opinion as asked.
Is it ok if I gently place an egg nicely on it?

I always turn it off when it starts up. I had a different vehicle that I left it on with, and it worked 99.9% of the time just fine. There was one time I had to hit the gas to make a right and get into traffic coming, and it lurched forward and then died. Thankfully I hadn't gotten into the fast moving traffic, but I've never trusted them again.

I've heard some people say it drains the battery with all the restarts, and I'm still on my originals 5ish years later, so maybe it helps with that.

Dunno about the additional wear and tear. I'm assuming that they engineered for the constant restarts, but probably not since they want people buying new cars as fast as possible.

It's all engineered into it.
LOL - if your Jeep wears out prematurely, are you going to buy another Jeep? Not me. I'd jump to a different make if things wore out too fast.

You've had luck or whatever - if you are happy - cool.

If it wasn't for the cold-weather downsides of lithium batteries - that would seem to satisfy a lot of issues with Jeep batteries and systems.
Basically, at least historically unless something has changed, the batteries Jeep has been using suck.

Please take your logic and rationale elsewhere. We're here only for anger and outrage.

I love the option of having the engine shut down at long lights, etc. I hate that they buried the battery and made resolving the infinite number of issues with the system difficult to deal with. Many of us don‘t drive our rigs frequently enough to keep the batteries in the top condition required to keep the ESS battery properly charged.
I have a 2022 GC Trailhawk as well, guess what’s not working on it. You guessed it, ESS.

I wish there was an “I’m indifferent” option. I don’t mind it, but I had to replace both batteries to get it working again. Also wish it would be easier to disable without all the lights and warnings (without buying something else).

And it's like asking people in a hospital how they feel.
How about asking forum members if they like Jeeps.
It's going to be totally skewed.
Proves zip, totally meaningless. Why bother?
An opinion is an opinion nothing more nothing less. Everyone has one even you. To the author thank you. It’s nice to know that overall the feature is unfavorable. I know my JTRD doesn’t like it because the restart is never smooth and without the Tazer it would be very annoying.

Wife gladiator has it and you feel it. My 2dr has the hybrid 3.6 and can’t tell. If made to where you can’t feel it, fine but as it is, I feel as if it’s a safety hazard. I ain’t seen what it will cost to fix when that goes out but unless you do a battery delete, ouch, pricey to swap batteries.

I turn it off when I get in the truck. I just press the little button provided to me as I don't want to buy anything extra.

Not because I have some made up anecdotal opinion on it reducing the life expectancy of my battery or the starter, or it not helping fuel mileage, etc.

But because it's damn annoying to pull up somewhere momentarily and it shuts off only to immediately have to restart. I tend to notice it readily, it bothers me, I don't particularly like it.

It's not because the system its good or bad. It's because I'm probably crazy (and it's not just the auto stop start in my truck). I'm fine with that.

I do not like it. The only place where I see it is needed, is when I am on the way home from work (2nd shift Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge) and I see deer and/or other wildlife in my headlights, I pull over to get a video, the engine shuts off. Convenient, very convenient. The animals settle down, my lights are still on.
The dislikes are many, even unsafe. Once I was turning left on a busy 4 lane road in the city. I get in the turn lane in the median, the engine shuts off, I get a small opening to dart across the road, I have to wait 1.5 seconds for the engine to start, and longer for the build up of steam to get across the road, by that time, I am almost run over! Similar location, but I had a tail light out...I should say BRAKE light out (LED, aftermarket) a car comes up behind me, I hear the tires screech, same scenario- wait for the engine to start, and wait to be able to drive straight out of that situation!
When I get home, if I pull in the driveway, I get stopped, engine shuts off, I place shifter in Park, engine starts back up, then I shut off the engine because I am home. When at a red light, it takes nearly 2 seconds for the engine to shut off! It is almost an instantaneous off when at home!
I always bypass the ESS, for these reasons, and it is not logical to be switching the engine off/on all day in city traffic.

Another pet peeve: A brake light not working if that turn signal is operating. If I am turning Left, I put the Left turn signal on. That brake light turns off, the Right side stays lit. (visa-versa for the Right turn) I dont like this atoll. In the case above, my Right side lamp quit working, so the guy behind me had no brake signals showing. Is that a Dodge thang, or has it always been like this? I am accustomed to the old Volvo cars- a lamp for everything. Turn lamp, Brake lamp, running light lamp, even an extra lamp for foggy conditions.
Anyway, I dont see a way to fixit, until after the warranty runs out, then I might try something.

I wish it was a option the purchaser could make and not FCA for us. Its a option that benefits the manufacturer more then the end user, FCA did it so they could get fleet mpg bonus credits from the government and dump the cost on to us. Lets say our battery system costs 350 dollars to replace both batteries on your own, every 4 years, that 350 dollars would cover about 100 gallons of gas, I have my doubts the ESS is saving that much gas over those 4 years.
