Oh really the only option you need is max tow? Suggest you take a look at the one trim pack that can tow 7,650.
Yes, a sport with the 3.6 and a manual transmission. There's nothing expensive about standard, base level equipment...

Maybe you're under the mistaken impression that the 7650lb tow rating requires the ecodiesel?

No, but it does require the automatic transmission.

Hate to burst your bubble the best you can do with a Sport with a manual transmission is 4,000 lbs. Look at the actual specs and get back at me.

Yup, you're right - I misremembred, but that's a $2k option - where the rest of your 50k coming from?

My reason for wanting one is that its a 4x4 available with a manual transmission. Not a single full size gas truck has a stick anymore, only choices are a dodge 2500-3500 with a cummings which you're looking at 60k+, a Tacoma which was not fun to drive at all, the engine they put in the 2016+ models is awful or a Frontier which I actually almost bought since the value is there since it hasnt been redesigned in about 10 years and the 4.0 in it is fun to drive but I just couldnt get together on a price when I was shopping so now I'm going to wait and see how the Jeep is.

I agree this is a special truck, but the entire category only moves 500k units /yr- not sure it's realistic to assume Jeep will be scooping up over 20% of that right off the bat.

I'm also not convinced they *can* build more than 100k of them right now. They moved the JKs off that line because they were pretty maxed out at around that number, didn't they?
You are correct I'm not saying they are going to build 200k of them but I think more than 100k. Not sure why they moved from the JK line could be numbers but in 15 and 16 they built over 200k JK's. I know one of the reasons was they didn't want to have an interruption so they built a new plant for the JL and then once online re-tooled the JK line for the Gladiator.

I think I would buy a full size RAM before I;d buy a Mid-size Truck of any kind unless I really liked it.

yeah but its a ranger;)
Correct. Who wants more horsepower, more torque, more payload, more fuel economy, a better ride, and better quality for less money? That's crazy.

The unspoken part is that most full size truck are pretty easy to get 10k off MSRP. The JT is going to be a lot more difficult to get that high of a percent off, even when and if sales cool a bit.
Yep. Even now, you can buy a nice Silverado for less money than a similar Colorado because of the rebates. Same will be true of the Ranger/F-150 and Gladiator/Ram.

I recently saw an entire dealer lot full of VERY nice 2019 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4s with MSRP stickers of $50,000, which means they'll likely sell for low to mid-$40s. Kind of made my stomach turn when I realized that my JL Sport S was $39,840 with no discounts. :(

There's no way Jeep sells 100,000 of these - the Tacoma - #1 in this class sold 198,000 units in 2017 and Chevy sold 112,000 Colorados while GMC sold 32,000 Canyons.

And bear in mind, these all have a wider variety of cabs and bed lengths.

Jeep will be fortunate to match or slightly beat the Canyon at - perhaps annual sales in the 40-45k range with only one bed length and one cab. Plus Ford is entering the space with the Ranger - also with a wider variety of beds and cabs.

So you would like to see a wider variety of beds and cabs?

Tell me about what you want to see.

Wait, Maybe someone should create a post about that and stay the F*** there.

At the moment the full size market is very competitive and has some great rebates, and I was looking at going the full size route and keeping the Jeep. You can get a fully loaded 2018 Ram with diesel and rebates put it around $40,000 (haven't looked at the 2019 version yet).

On the midsize market (particularly with the Jeep) there is a bit less competition, and I also see the Jeep being niche enough with the removable doors and top that I don't see the market giving $10,000+ in rebates any time soon to make them less expensive than the full size.

Having said that from the specs it appears that the Gladiator is going to have one of the bigger cabs in the market, and in a few years it wouldn't surprise me if the cabs in the market are as big as the full size trucks, and over time the midsize market and full size market get blended together more.

If you paid MSRP on your JL that is all on you. Many people all across America paid 6% under invoice.

I do not see anything that points to the JT being any different. I am expecting to pay well under invoice.
