When my first engine was consuming coolant, they put a dye in the coolant to see if it would show up in the oil. The investigation was going to be long, several months in fact through Covid and all so my insurance company had it replaced. I wasnāt waiting for corporate to make the right decision to replace.I have a consumption issue and have taken it back twice. I did the oil change and added 5qts and checked one day, about 1200mi in, and was 1.5qt low. No leaks, not underfilled. The first time I took it to a dealer to see the issue was, the dance was "do an oil change, then we'll monitor and bring it back in 1500mi and we'll check it." So I did, and of course it was fine.
Another 1000mi later, it's low a quart plus again... So I take it in, and they topped it off and say "bring it back in exactly 1000mi, and we'll investigate it further and see what's next." Again, they topped it off, put dye in it they claim, and send me on my way. I'm still in warranty another 5mo. and honestly feel that they're just kicking the can down the road at this point. @JeepCares any suggestions? This motor is eating oil and I'm tired of wasting my time back n forth to the dealership to be "topped off" and sent down the road. I have more faith in a 95 4Runner with 150k on it right now compared to this thing...?
Service manager said if the dye is found in the oil then the heads would come off and have to be sent out for X-rays. In your case, would the dye end up on the plugs or tops of pistons or in the exhaust or cats or what?? Canāt they just pull the plugs and see where the oil is coating stuff?
Iād say they are following the first course of action from FCA.
