I had a client several years ago who was the R&D head of one of the companies that make the additive packages for the major oil companies. When I was finally able to afford my first Porsche I asked him how to best break in the engine as far as OIC were concerned. He said that all manufacturers use regular oil (not a special break in oil) and that I should Do the first oil change at 1000 miles or less, then at 2000 and 5000 or yearly if it isn’t driven much. I followed that recommendation for all our vehicles since then.
He said that ALL engines will produce particles during the break in phase as the various components mate to each other and these should be removed sooner rather than later.
When I bought my Gladiator I had 4 free oil changes to use during the first 24 months as part of the Jeep Wave program. The dealer said I didn’t need to change the oil that soon but did it anyway…
