It’s a different transmission, not the stock 8 speed. They have a video showing the entire process at AMW and it’s quite impressive IMO. The goal is to build it in a way that it looks completely factory as possible. They sweat the details and it shows. You also get credit for your engine and transmission, the amount depends on the age and miles.. so it’s under $31k actually. If I had the money I’d do it.

That price makes me happy... I wonder if there's a difference if it's swapping from a diesel?

Not that I would, but it gives me options if my engine blows up for some reason. Blowing a motor is always a possibility that's in the back of my mind since I blew up my 3.6.

I believe the diesel already has the correct transmission so I'd guess it would be cheaper?

Yeah. Maybe a different bellhousing? I’m not sure, but I’m sure it’s doable to use the same transmission. With the diesel.

My background of modifying vehicles is mainly GM stuff. GM makes it so damn easy as far and engines and transmissions bolting up. I get that ZF is German and I’ve had enough German cars to know that they make things unnecessarily difficult without any rhyme or reason or accountability, but that’s wild if there aren’t even adapters out there to make it work. It’s the same transmission. I get why you wouldn’t want to use the 3.6l transmission.

Well as I understand from the rumor mill if your not overly hard on the 850RE it will hold up to the 5.7L but the problem is that the 400+ foot pound of torque the 5.7L delivers is always nearly max that the 850RE is rated for which is 500Ft.Ibs of torque. That is if you have a lead foot and can't stay out of the skinny peddle.

It literally states on AMW website they use the 8HP75, which is the same trans in the diesel.

I guess the question is WILL they swap a diesel. My guess is it will cost a little more because they'll need to either source gasser parts like fuse blocks, mounts, etc, or they'll have to do custom work since battery, fuse box, intake etc are all in different locations.

I didn't watch the video.

Did they address the #1 question? What was the MPGs?!

But seriously. What does the 5.7 in the JT average?

Kind of. He stated he was seeing around 16 in rural areas, but also stated they weren't quite broke in yet, and that was a lot of idling. I would imagine it was also including quite a few some spirited accelerations.

I enjoyed the breakdown and love the DRC vids. Obviously AMW has to charge their prices because of the relative small economies of scale. Have Stellantis plug in a V8 option and the price will be more reasonable. We all know the eco-push and the political climate almost killed the V8, so now it's intriguing to see a real-time pivot.

What if you have a tungsten foot and can't stay off the fat pedal?

The easy fix is just to pull two plugs.

Your numbers are close - just flummoxed by those damn conversions. According to AI search: The 5.7 hemi puts out 410lb-ft and the eTorque version adds another 130. The 850RE max rating is 369 (500 newton-meters).

The 8HP75, on the other hand, handles 553lb-ft and can be upgraded to handle 1850lb-ft (I like big bore and I cannot lie/you other brothers can't deny).

I’ve driven enough 5.7l 1500s to know that they do surprisingly well if you take it easy on it, but a 400hp V8 is like a turbo engine when you step on it. They guzzle gas. I’d expect 1-2 mpg better in a stock JT because they weigh slightly less. I think you could match stock MPG if you have a stock JT and drive with a reasonable attempt at efficiency. I wouldn’t. I used to get 13 mpg city in my 5.3l Z71 because I loved the sound of the V8 with a tune, intake and exhaust when I stepped on it. Haha.
