Yeah think Nissan or Toyota it was that already is doing that with HP upgrades on sport model vehicles and with Nav etc..
Toyota has been locking out ECUs since the 90s, and around 2000 they started locking down ALL their ECUs. Since the MKIV Supra (the OG, the last TRUE Supra. All you BMW fanboys can choke on it.) they've been doing this, even the Scion's were locked down so well you couldn't even get reliable piggyback tuning as the ECU would keep trying to force OEM parameters while the piggyback (interrupt tuner) would modify the signals before the ECU could send another request.

Nissan doesn't even care, the Skyline's/Siliva's weren't locked down. And the current "R35" gen is based more on the g35/37 "skyline" platform, which let's be honest, wasn't a real Skyline as they got bigger, heavier, handled worse, slower, and more about comfort than performance as the OG Skyline concept was designed to be.

Performance vehicles are gone, at least for road use. Call these "modern" sport vehicles whatever you want. Anyone who's been around the performance scene in vehicles will tell you these new "toys" are a joke and have ZERO driver feedback/feel in mind. They don't want you owning anything unless you're rich, and these prices/laws regarding what you can/cannot do with your own products is proof. Go watch Louis Rossmann, he's one of the few who's fighting for our constitutional rights to NOT be REMOVED, as they've been successfully doing.

Shit, the Acura NSX doesn't even have a physical connection to the steering wheel, throttle, or brakes...all DBW (drive-by-wire) and feels like a video game, but worse.

The GR Corolla is "illegal" on CA roads if you use the "race mode", same with the N-Spec Elantra/Kona models.
-They'll stop you, cite you, tow you, find out it's not modified, charge you another $1000 just because, then threaten to crush it if you get caught 2 more times.
- Get accused of "street racing" in that Nazi state, INSTANT VEHICLE CRUSH, no exemptions.
- CDL operator? Better stay out of that state...they took a man's semi, crushed it, he lost his contract for the delivery, lost a "breach of contract" lawsuit by the business he was towing for, and is homeless since 2017...all because he had a 1990's (iirc 1993) semi that was modified to haul those loads (legally under federal EPA laws) and used Jake Brakes coming down a hill and made "too much noise".

The new Ford GT, you cant even sell it without permission from Ford without litigation against you. Someone tried this, got sued, and lost. Who was it? Oh yeah...

BMW, and Mercedes Benz have been doing the subscripting thing for a while. The rest of the Europeans, and Japanese been eyeing it really hard. They want to see how push back there will be. If there is little push back. Everyone will be doing it.
You are absolutely correct! Before I retired from BMW, we used to take advantage of the employee lease program. Roughly $325 a month for a 3 series, nicely equipped. They paid tax, tag, insurance, did all maintenance, etc. I got out of the program a few years before I left. The last 2 cars we had, even we had to subscribe for all the extras. Had to pay extra for remote start, navigation, etc.

Toyota fan bois are finally starting to figure out how good 5th gens are with how much reliable power potential they have and how underrated that engine is and prices are going up. I first realized how underrated that engine is when I drove a new Z4 M40i. No way that’s 382 hp. Maybe to the wheels.

I read this today and thought so many on the forum will be disappointed if they do not force the vehicle operator scanning stuff on everyone.

There was video today of a guy that fell asleep in the Taco bell drive through the police were called to wake him. Remember when fast food employees were conscientious enough to wake people who fall asleep in the drive through themselves what has happened to peoples work ethics.

Based on how long it takes to get through a Taco Bell drive-through, It's amazing more folks don't fall asleep waiting FOREVER to get a taco made... I have ample experience with this problem! ;)

It is good to not be effected and not have to worry about changing all that proprietary programing stuff since I would have no control of any of them.

That’s why I just go with Jack in the Crack tacos. It was a tradition when I started wheeling to grab a couple before we hit the trail. Common meet up spot in Yuma.

I'm sure glad I still have my 2 XJ's, MJ and TJ UNLIMITED. I wouldn't mind to have my old Ford Explorer pickup. . . Got mileage like a semi though. some of them probably have better.
