Sounds like they F’d something up while doing the TSB...
How does lifters and camshaft get F'd when changing out steering box?

Honestly wouldn't worry about the replacement of cam, lifters and followers. They've been doing those on Hemi's for 10+ years now with excellent results. Better to have that issue fixed while it's still under warranty than a couple years down the line where you might be out of warranty.

But, if they're still having issues with cylinder 2 they might throw a new long block in it and call it a day.

It sucks, but either repair I wouldn't worry about. Thousands and thousands of people with the 5.7 Hemi have had lifters and cam done with great success and long engine life afterwards.

There is no easy way to console someone in situations like this or give them the warm fuzzy feeling again. Going to have to find your own peace on this and trust the repair is done fine or just look to unload it and move on.

Correct. How they jacked it up on a test drive, no clue. Hot rodding tech? Engine built before a 3 day weekend? I had an 04 Chevy Tahoe with all kinds of problems. New starter, 2 fuel pumps, and an oil pump all from 24K to 40K.

How does lifters and camshaft get F'd when changing out steering box?

Sounds like they F’d something up while doing the TSB...
Some people are seeing issues with misfire, etc. and yet no lights triggered on the dash. This is not the first I've read of that.

I had another Jeep that had a transient issue with a sensor and it never set a code - and it took the dealer a while to figure it out because of that but they finally "caught it in the act" one visit - a code that never stayed, they left their reader on the thing so they could see what was happening while they were driving it.

Awfully hard to mess up lifters while doing the steering TSB.

The tech was doing his due-diligence and found a problem that didn't trigger the "check engine light". It happens.
What? You guys would rather he just let it go and the owner be on a trip and have the engine blow due to something that could have been caught by hey, it didn't trigger a light and the owner never mentioned it so just let it be?
Sure, blame the tech for doing the right thing.

Heck I raced an AMC 390 with 4 sleeves and mostly new internals.
If it was a bad thing to repair engines or rebuild them, half the vehicles one the road - well, they wouldn't be on the road!
IF the mechanic is good I'd trust a good solid rebuild or repaired engine as much as a new one.
I'm driving a 1994 4.0 all around the place - it's on its second hundred thousand miles now. I rebuilt it at 100,000 miles. It had been abused by the prior owner the first time around. I'd not be afraid to take that thing anywhere in the country.

Pick up my 2020 gladiator rubicon this morning with new steering gearbox and flash. All I can say is wow. Don’t listen to everyone else the difference is night and day it drives like a real truck. No more pulling and handles unbelievably all I can say is get it done as soon as you can. It’s a great fix.

Yep...this is exactly what I and others have been saying. Vast majority have good results and those that don't can usually be traced back to installation issues with the dealer...

When you had the bad lifters did the truck sound like you have a bad engine. My Gladiator has 2000 miles on it and the noise started. It's really loud about 2500 rpms and gets louder until the trans shifts and starts again. I took it to the dealer and they were able to hear it when i took the service advisor for a ride. They called me back later that day and don't know what's wrong with it. They said they test drove another Gladiator and the noise was there slightly but not as bad as mine. They told me to bring it back if it gets worse. Hell, It was bad when i took it there. To me, it sounds like my old 72 Cutlass after I blew up street racing when i was 16.

Mine has a very slight deep valve train sound when it idles if you have everything else off and listen carefully. It sounds about like a 4.0 when idling.
Otherwise the engine in mine is pretty quiet. You just don't hear it under normal conditions when it's idling and it sounds about like very other 3.6 we've owned otherwise.

Frankly, I feel the oil Jeep recommends is just too light.
If my engine sounded loud, too much valve train noise, I'd use 5w30 oil and see how it sounded.
They use that really low viscosity stuff for mpg.

So much speculation, guessing and dealer hate, so few (or no) facts.
