Made a little change purely cosmetic, still love my RSI cap and would buy one again. Just didn’t like the sticker on back and , didn’t mind that RSI sticker but the whole door frame is vinyl, this is a long term truck for me even if the little V-8 comes out, ok maybe then, figured better to have an all stainless cap that grows old with me!

I'm ready to do this label removal as well. After spending too much time cleaning up the goo that drips from the side latches, I was hesitant to attempt this one.

Does it come off clean, or did you have to clean up adhesive residue?

Have to clean the glue off, did it on a hot sunny day and used goo-be-gone, but took a while. I figure three or four years from now it will be much harder to get off.....Jack

DIY top rack. Crossbars are 1x2 extruded aluminum and side bars are 1/4" x 2" aluminum bar. I cut the slots on my router table with a 1/4" spiral upcut bit in small depth increments until the holes were through.

What mounting bolts/nuts did you use? Given that the RSI crossbar is so backordered, I'm trying to figure out another solution, and I've not seen clear info anywhere on specifically what is needed.... e.g. an M8-1.25 Nut or Bolt of what width (...13mm, 14mm?) and thickness (...5mm, 7MM?) would work in the T-slot? Did you put the nut in the T-slot, or use a square-head bolt in the T-slot?

Thanks!

Yes, I didn’t notice right away either, but yes, I think it looks better and will look better years from now , sounds like second batch didn’t have it. Removing all that weight reduced my rear sag by 1/64 th of and inch ..Ha!......Jack

hmmm...hot sunny day may be hard to come by....but I have a heat gun! Sadly with RTT on top she's to tall to fit in any of my buddies garages....

Sweet, Thanks! Looks like 14mm wide, and 6-7mm thick is the sweet spot.

What's the recommended mounting method for an RSI cap, trail rail or direct clamp? The wheels are in motion....

I'd imagine the trail rail method is ideal over the direct clamp...both seem to work fine though. I want the trail rail for other stuff too, so for me at least it makes it the ideal method just for that reason.

Mine doesn’t have a trail rail, so clamps it is. Seems super sturdy. No real issue besides some bedrail deformation. But, that will happen regardless of mounting method.

I had mine mounted with the trail rail, but I think I am going to switch to the standard clamp. I have no math to back this up, but I like the load path with the clamp more than pulling up on that trail rail. Also, I think I am going to put some support under the bedrail cap to help with the deflection. That plus the clamp should make (in my mind at least) the most robust connection, outside of bolting the thing down.

It's either one or the other. If the trail rails are installed, the clamps cannot be used. The trail rails block access to the area where the lower clamps would attach. I discovered this when I went to install my under rail LED lights. I ended up installing them on the roof of my SmartCap.

I finally installed mine and used 15mm rubber pads in the back. It’s a perfect fit before installing the clamps. I wonder is RSI took measurements before the clamps were torqued, because while torquing I noticed that the trail rails/bed sides bow and the plastic bed rail caps compress. Once torqued, the cap is way too close and the tailgate wants to hit the D gasket and not graze it. I have some 20mm pads coming to see if that helps. Also considering installing without the trail rails to see if that’s better.

Also, the roof rails do hold the weight of the cap so you can lift it with a hoist. I used 4 weld nuts with eye bolts. Would have preferred more points to distribute the load, but didn’t have all my parts yet.

Thanks for the update! For those of us that ordered in early March, were we included in the March/April shipment or was this shipment pushed out to May?

Most likely May. The March shipment was still fulfilling orders from previous months.
