At $495, is Gorilla Glass still worth the price?

So, yesterday I just ordered a new Mojave with GG. It will be the third mojave I’ve owned if I take receipt of it. The first didn’t have GG, and I was fortunate to never have a glass issue before it was bought off of me. The second did have GG that I paid whatever the discounted price under invoice for which was probably near $175 and I never had any issues. So, I’m familiar enough with the idea of GG, but now at $495, I just don’t know? I should still be able to change my order today to remove it if I wanted to, but I thought I’d order it to be safe. However, I can’t help but feel a bit taken over the price increase. I’ll call my insurance agent to get his $.02’s, but I’d welcome some insightful thoughts from you experts.

It doesn't seem to be cracking any less. Then when it does people cannot get replacements.
GG is for scratches not impacts that crack.

The whole Gorilla Glass justification has been a hard one to quantify for most people to include me on its value and worth. Everything has a failure point and it is hard to say on any given impact incident whether Gorilla Glass would have save the expense of replacement or not over a regular glass install.

I think it is more of a feel good up-sell.

Increased scratch resistance = increased brittleness and prone to cracking. Congrats on the third Mojave!

Mine cracked by just looking at it, didn’t even have a rock chip. They replaced it though free of charge.

My gorilla Glass is cracked. It only had 2700 miles on it when it got dinged. Is it worth the extra coins? Depends on what makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. On a side note the crack hasn't gotten any bigger. It is still just a chip and now has 11k on it. I like gorilla glass so I guess it tickles whatever that fancy is that makes me want it. YMMV. ???

As an upsell at that price seems silly. Just my opinion. GG has been in my phones for years and they still crack even when they say this time it won’t lol.
