Me personally ......... I like the idea, but that is coming from someone that looks at a rig with ideas and likes to fab. To each their own, but I would never do this to a new rig.

I have built 2 or 3 samurais in the past and learned a lot from doing so and also had fun.

This thread proves that I have much smaller balls than a lot of you. That includes Elise.

Great write up and pics :fist bump:

Ok, calling this modification done for now. Thanks again @SigSauerKraut for going first!

While finishing, biggest suggestion is to buy more paint than you think you need. 4 cans wasn’t enough to do the bed well. I’ve got 10 more on the way so I can mask it up and hit it again later this month, but I’m feeling good about the rest of the project.

Test fit my spare and cooler in there tonight, everything worked out as planned! Should be able to fit those plus my compressors and a few misc tools in the bed, which is exactly what I wanted.

Looks good. Wanna send me the cut offs so I can make my bed longer? haha

If you want to come pick it up, I wouldn’t complain. Probably not cost effective to mail it though :P

I think this is a way better idea.

It’s a good idea, and I’m considering doing something like that in addition to shortening the bed. I want to try out the shortened bed before making a new bumper though.

Lifting up and cutting back are additive mods IMO, not mutually exclusive.

Man I was hoping that first pic was Photoshopped. The other photos prove that it is not.

Alas, we see thousands spent on (for some reason) ridding of the rear doors and adding a long bed to a base Gladiator. No need to upgrade the wheels, no need for painted fenders, no need for LED taillights, and God for Bid, please keep the super sporty SPORT sticker on the fender. Sweet.

you might understand, as it is built by the same guy sheik that had these built (amount others)

But then I see he built a custom land vehicle for the Mandalorian. Sweet.

And also had the forethought of making an aquatic Delorean out of a JK (keep it base) and some sporty floatation devices. Marty McFly never had it better.

Thats a bit excessive, and in my opinion poorly done. It also really doesn’t help that it’s a base sport.

I’d keep it 4 door, and I was really thinking more of a 6’ bed. Something along the lines of the quad cab long bed Tacoma. I’ve always thought they looked good.

It's not a bed chop, but I finally wrapped up a high clearance rear bumper that included trimming 7" off the bottom of the rear fender. It took a lot longer and several attempts to get it how I wanted it, but I am thrilled with how it turned out. The sides are now even with the bottom of the flare, which has been split and the rear of the bumper is just a little over an inch lower than the frame rails.

Do you have any more build details?

What would you like to know? It gained me an additional 6" on the sides and 6.5" on the rear at the receiver. I worked with a bumper guy here in New Mexico and am happy to provide any info I can. He is a great person to work with.
