I hope I’m not repeating what someone else has said but I went through this exact same thing, fortunately mine was covered under warranty. You’ll need to have your dealer check for a wire that has rubbed through the insulation and I’d grounding out. I went through 3 batteries and 4 trips to type dealer before they finally listened and looked for a grounded out wire. Once I got it back I installed a Bluetooth battery monitor on both batteries to make sure I don’t get stranded again.
Link For the BT monitor?

Wat, where are these wires located?

You’ll need to follow the entire length of the harness, but it’s typically close to the transmission

Thanks. Does one unit monitor both batteries or did you need to hook up 2 units? Do you have a write up on how you did it?
You’ll need one for each battery. The how to is simple, connect the red and black wires to associated battery terminals. Then download the app and you get an update every time you come within range of your Jeep.

Interesting since the batteries are in parallel and charged together. The drain while sitting in the garage pulls from both batteries. They are not independent.

How are you separating the batteries to do that?

Why would it? The dual battery configuration is only for ESS. It has nothing to do with the rest of the electrical system. The PCM is still tracking via the IBS - every mA that goes in, every mA that comes out, and detects SoC and adjusts alternator output accordingly.
Might be why mine is working, the solar system on it. Typically holding 12.4 - 12.8 v or so. ? Not ideal voltage?

What about hardwiring the lead to a trickle charger to the motorcycle battery that gets plugged in once or twice a week overnight (or to a solar panel), if the vehicle is idle for days/weeks? If the small battery is getting an insufficient charge during use, and is causing drain on the full size, it stands to reason that keeping it topped off may avert total system failure?
Mine has the 85 w solar system charging starting battery system, I had to jump mine off once or twice "before the solar system" due to being parked for some days I don't remember exactly how many days. Good weather and LJ with top n doors off. :like:

Now if you do add a solar panel it really needs a (good) controller too, how do I know my 4wheeler has had battery(s) killed do to over charge with simply solar power with built-in controller.
My "Thing" with the ESS system is more wear and tear on starter, this might sound petty and or cheap. But a starter only has so many "starts" before failure. Plus wear on the engine too "???" (Maybe "old mechanics" tale) but always been told most wear on engines is start up other than just flat out hours of running on engines. I can see that as being correct with some single piston engines used to run oil pump jack engines that had been running for over 40 years 24/7 365. AKA: 208s and 440s pumping oil or as injection wells. Some of them only get shutdown when absolutely have too.

I can assure you that if one goes dead the truck will not start. I come from a. Place of experience.

I connected them straight to the terminals
So you’re receiving different report data for each battery while they are connected to each other? Curious, have you tried comparing that data to when the batteries are completely disco’d from the system and each other?

You cannot measure individual battery voltages when wired in parallel. Any measurement will be the levelized of the two.

Yes, makes me curious as to why the reports wouldn’t be almost identical.

Has to be a tolerance spread between the two measuring devices and/or time sampling difference. Each device could also be doing an averaging across time measurement.
