Anyone have any input on these two CAI kits for the eco D? Both are on sale for roughly the same price right now, was thinking about pulling the trigger to get those few MPG’s that I lost from my larger tires back. And to add some fun noises.

I see a lot of hate for K&N on here, is the AFE momentum kit that much better? And if so, which filter option?

Project Prime did an excellent test on engine air filters and K&N performance was abysmal to say the least (off the charts last place).

As for MPGs you're not going to see a difference. The Ram uses a larger air filter on the ecodiesel and they have the same performance. The only difference is in tunes where the Ram gets an extra 40 pounds of torque in 6th gear ONLY. All other gears are the same 442 pounds of TQ in the Ram and Jeeps.

The hate for K&N on here is for their air filters. I'm going off memory here, but i think in testing the K&N filter was closer to not having an air filter at all than it was to the next worst air filter tested.
to get those few MPG’s that I lost from my larger tires back.
It wont do that, not even a little bit
And to add some fun noises.
it will do that

I’ve run the KN for 40k now. Cleaned it twice. The prefilter on the lid is very fine I replaced it with oiled UNI dirtbike foam (cut to fit) and I clean this after every big off-road trip.

Oil analysis shows no excess dirt or any major issues

I have the AFE and I love it. Contrary to what everyone else will tell you, it is the only one that will post their performance gains, even tho only minimal. All the naysayers be damned, I got an additional 1-2mpg after I installed it.

“Unlock the hidden horsepower and torque left behind by the factory”. Been reading the same cr@p since I bought my first Mustang in:’92. Admittedly I fell for it at first.

From what I understand the air box in our ecodiesel is actually the the bottle neck as to why the ram 1500 is rated as higher output… it’s a lot smaller in our platform.

I’d consider the AFE, but not for $400 or whatever it has bloated to I won’t.

How stringent were you with your before and after fuel calculations? A 1 - 2 mpg improvement would be staggering for such a small modification.

Have you considered installing the AFE hot and cold air charge pipes? AFE also shows a slight improvement in horsepower and torque. BladeRunner 3 IN Aluminum Hot and Cold Charge Pipe Kit Black | aFe POWER

I would be impressed if I saw a solid 1 - 2 mpg improvement by adding the AFE air intake and the hot and cold charge pipes.

Yes, please someone do the hot/cold charge pipes. I've not read anyone do those on the Wrangler side that gives any type of review (probably just snake oil then).

. I don’t think it will stay 1-2 mpg for long. My guess is that it’s you being more conscious of how you’re driving since it was installed.
As far as +15 HP and +39lbs…..nope! BS.
What the are trying to claim is Jeep gave up 15 HP and 39 lbs for the sake of less throaty sound. All AFE did was eliminate the sound baffles in the air intake tube and put a different air filter in. I think the Engineers at Jeep would have figured that out.
Not trying to bash you. Just think the claims that these after market companies make are a joke.

My butt dyno tells me that i've gained 10 hp just by replacing my dirty oem air filter.
