I wouldn’t mess with radiator drain. They usually develop leaks after opening.

I agree that the radiator drain-cock can eventually fail/leak. It took several drain and fills before the OE drain-cock failed on my 2015 EcoDiesel. The good news is that Mopar sells replacement drain-cocks for our radiators.

I'm sure I saw it, but I don't remember your method. I typically just do a drain and fill using the radiator drain-cock. To find your post, do you have a word that will work in the search function? Maybe the name of tool that you used?

Good idea! Found it with my name and Vevor lol.

Look at post 17. I did not have issues with the petcock. I used a socket, forgot the size, that fit and turn it slow. I only open enough that it starts to come out and not more since it will pop out. You will be able to suck out a lot like this into the vevor or other pneumatic sucker. I also had that Airlift vacuum filler for no air pockets. Should go well.

For what it’s worth, today I was running north out of Florida on my usual snuff run looked down and noticed I was running between 240 and 245°. The taser has a setting where you can hit two steering wheel buttons and it turns on your fan. I did this and within 45 seconds or so I was down to 233 to 235.

It's after that time of year, but I was a little late to the game. Today I cleaned all of my A/C condensers at home and also the Jeep's cooling stack!

Have an RV tow planned for next week and the high temps in the valley are predicted to hit 106°. I'll be leaving in the morning while it's cooler and be climbing in elevation within 11 miles of leaving the house and then 23 miles to where the 9% starts......so I should be good and heat soaked by then!

I've done this trip every year since 2021, same bike in the bed, 37's, 38's, 3.73s, 4.10s, lighter RV, this RV, old software and updated, without and now with the Bulletproof aux cooler.....the result will be the same minus the 248° coolant temps and 5mph on the shoulder since the software update.

Very nice! Eventually, I would like to get a small travel trailer for our Gladiator. Your trailer and tow rig looks great! I'm hoping that you have a fun, safe, and successful trip!

Hey Tony, might consider one of these screens for your grill? Put it on mine when I bought the truck and has kept the radiator stack nice and clean. Btw still loving your shock tune. Best riding jeep I’ve been in! Going on another trip to Pagosa Springs next week with it loaded down.

I don't really have a bug problem where we go locally, just want to make sure any dirt or other residue that might reduce heat transfer is not present in the coolers? That screen might even block some airflow? Maybe swap one on for the Alaska trip next year as an extra layer of protection from rocks and "bird sized" bugs they have up there?

Loving that feedback on the shocks! Glad you are enjoying.....Wish you could have tried them before I did my work as it would really add a whole new level appreciation. Stay cool down there!

I love Pagosa Springs!

Avoid the pizza joint with all the beer taps, those things are never serviced and broken most the time.

Motel SoCo is great, they also have live music and a food truck sometimes. It's a nice evening to hang out with a beer from their taproom and listen to a live show outside.

yeah I’d definitely recommend one of these if your heading to an area with a lot of bugs. Keeps everything pretty clean.
I watched the temps before and after and didn’t see any increase with it on, that included loaded towing a camper as well.

I’ve settled with about 4 clicks on the high speed and 2 to 3 with the low. We always have a smile driving this thing on rough roads now 😂.
Have a good trip!

Mostly uneventful trip over the mountains with the cooler temps.

Got stopped on a steep uphill grade for controlled traffic and a few mins later I could see smoke coming out of the right side fake hood vent? Right then tragic started rolling so I went to the next wide spot.

Opened the hood having a look around and found the wire split loom from the positive cable for the winch was melting. It's been there since 2021 and nothing has changed on my end other than a dpf failure/replacement a few thousand miles ago. I've towed 10's of thousands of miles all over the country and never seen this.

Maybe the conditions were just perfect this time? Steep grade, possibly in the middle of a regen, followed by the stop?

I did smell something melting like wire about 22 months back while towing but didn't find anything at that time. No sure how many miles that as before the dpf failure, but I'll have to look at my records and see. I've only put 4k miles on it in the past 14 months?

That would be a sketchy situation? Thats why I why I double wrapped in the areas with any possible abrasion with heater hose.

It's definitely heat from the exhaust below melting it, just interesting that it's been fine for over 4 years and suddenly an issue? I've towed under tougher terrain in much hotter climates than today.
